I participate in group rides here in Maryland and there are groups that will leave your ass and some that wont.
On the better groups I ride with, they put the more advanced riders in the front and the least in the rear. The front rider with go all out but if an exit is needed or a turn off has to be made, they will stop and wait for the rest of the pack. So everyone is safe and everyone has fun.
A specific group I ride with has a front guy and rear guy that communicate constantly. this works extremly well.
I am usually near or at the front depending who is riding that day. Now I have been to the track but have never been on the track. Most of the group rides I do the guys have been to the track.
Ok, my buddy Scott that is coming with me has a S1000RR which is a very fast bike. I know because I ride it sometimes. It has a PC5, full pipe, and real purdy but he will be in the back in the twisties. Hes been riding a long time but doesnt have the confidence to use the bike in the twisties and hes ok with that. He just really likes riding. So he knows if I get to far ahead in the twisties that I will eventually wait up. Then again he is a killer on staight a ways and catches me quite often when the twisties end. But the Dragon is mostly twisties and he is ok with it.
The point is, don't be afraid to admit the kinda of rider you are to yourself. I will not make fun of a rider that rides in the front, middle or rear. We were all there once.
So quoting some very wise riders I know "RIDE YOUR OWN RIDE and BE SAFE".
Ride GREEN or don't ride at all.
