It is. It connects to several other nice roads, which most are still in winter mode.

No it is not a fun road, it's an F-ing glorious road. Fast in some areas - W of the summit, 8314 ft, and very technical in other areas. Because it's somewhat off the beaten path it has on the whole a lot less traffic. It very definitely "rides different" going W -» E than E -» W. I kinda' like the latter. Very switch back ladened piece of tarmac.

I also love Ebbets Pass - 8732 ft - heading from the E. My fave is Sonora Pass @ 9625 ft, from the W... well I actually love it both ways! This N/N-Central part of the Sierras are my favourite of the Pacific states. Only slightly out shown by the Rocky Mtn states. Again, this area's roads are an absolute drug - you just cannot get enough of them.

I agree with the OP - Monitor Pass is glorious - little traffic, generally very good road conditions, and view that seem to go for 100's of miles. I've only ridden it twice, both times from west to east but it is definitely a "must do". I'm going to dig through my old videos and see if I've got something worth posting from the other direction....

Looks like someplace to avoid come July or August?

Most of the video I was like............where the fuck are the trees and greenery

Stupid people say stupid things on the internet, so be wary of who those people are. If you solicit advice on the internet, just keep in mind 99% of what you'll receive is not based on fact or science-and likely atleast 95% of it is based on bullshit and bravado regurgitated from some other schlub who also did not experience any of what they claim and are also full of shit. If you don't like my bluntness- too bad. I am not here to please you, so move along, your approval is not desired nor is it needed. So before opening your pie hole and adding more stupidity, perhaps sit back, listen, absorb and learn something. You know that saying, it is better to remain silent and thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt!
