I Ride: 2014 zx6r 636
A Long Trip.

This Christmas that just passed I rode my '06 Ninja 500 from Little Rock, AR to the central valley of California and back. If I remember correctly the milage going out there was just under 2000 miles. It took me 2 and a quarter days to make it out there with riding from 5am to 11pm the first day, 6am to 11pm the second, and finally a 3 and a half hour ride the third.

Coming back was a different story. I ended up taking a southern route back because of forecasted snow down most of the stretch of the I40 corridor. What happened though was that the front that was supposed to move through the center of the country stayed to the south, and Texas got a shitstorm of ice right after the new year. My second day of riding is when I hit El Paso, TX and ran into someone going the opposite direction riding a BMW heading toward Cali, he was the one that told me about the ice in central Texas. He told me he had to pull over early the night before due to the ice on the, but was surprised to see that DOTD had kept the roads fairly clear. I think I made it until about 11:30pm that night just trying to get close to Dallas but had to pull over because of the cold, and the roads started to look like glass.

I don't know what town I stopped in but it was about 280 miles to Dallas still, and if anybody has tried to get a motel out in those oil field towns, you know how expensive even the shittiest motel is. The third day I was beat. I woke up at 5:30am to 18°f weather, waited to hit the road until 7am to "try" to let it warm up. It got to 24°f and no warmer. I ended up having to call a friend to come pick me outside of Dallas because of money issues and me getting hypothermia. I felt like a complete piece of shit for not making it back home with out help, but its good to have people you can count on if you need them.

I'm looking to do it again this coming Christmas but thus time on the 636. I know that the seating potion between the 500 and the 636 is like night and day, and the MPG between the two are beyond comparison, but I'm hopeful that with the right preparation the 636 should be a fun ride.

What is y'alls longest road trip on your 636 and how well did you and your bike handle that trip. Thanks for reading I look toward to reading about some of your trips.

I Ride: 86,000+ mile '07 ZZR600
I try to never ride that many hours in a single day, especially consecutive days when doing trips- I got a older and wiser and past experiences pretty well dictated long days was not the way.

I am more typically up and gone around 8am and done 4-500 miles later at 5-6pm

I have ridden to AR several times the 660ish miles non stop, boring ass ride to get there but fun once there

I have ridden to Daytona non stop, 1650 miles and those are like 20 hour days--but I would never do that again... But most of those Daytona trips I would stop in KY and stay at my aunts house getting east of Lexington and ride through the Appalachians south to Daytona and a similar route coming back- then it would be close to 5000 mile round trip spread over typically 8 days (with 3-4 of the days in Daytona resting)

The last big trip I took was 3400 miles, trailered across South Dakota then road the western edge of South Dakota, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, Utah and Colorado, then back to the truck/trailer and we trailered home (those 700ish miles of just freeway droning suck ass and ruin a trip IMO)---Sadly this year this is the same trip we have planned, but we are not trailering across SD, instead riding the entire trip, 14 states and about 4400 miles is the rough itinerary- going all the way out to Washington state... we will do 4-500 mile days each day sans day 1 and day 10 where getting entirely across SD going and entirely back from ND is the plan- both about 680 mile days

Stupid people say stupid things on the internet, so be wary of who those people are. If you solicit advice on the internet, just keep in mind 99% of what you'll receive is not based on fact or science-and likely atleast 95% of it is based on bullshit and bravado regurgitated from some other schlub who also did not experience any of what they claim and are also full of shit. If you don't like my bluntness- too bad. I am not here to please you, so move along, your approval is not desired nor is it needed. So before opening your pie hole and adding more stupidity, perhaps sit back, listen, absorb and learn something. You know that saying, it is better to remain silent and thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt!

the longest trip ive taken on the ninja so far has been up into wisconsin, just cruising with some friends. got up to kettle moraine st. park which is gorgeous btw. probably did somewhere over 200 miles that day. been planning to take longer trips but just haven't had the time lately. Its hard to get time off during the riding season when you work for Harley.

The longest trip i ever took was just shy of 3000 miles in 5 days. It was a blast but you definitely don't want to do really long days it gets too much.
