Babes in the Dirt

So I'll keep this one brief because I'm working on a blog post about the whole experience. Basically, I thought I would share it here because it was such an epically good time (even in spite of the fact that I had to wear 4 layers in freakin' APRIL) that I encourage all women, wives, girlfriends, etc. to do this.

Babes Ride Out is an international movement of ladies who convene to ride, hang out, and have a blast. Babes in the Dirt is currently in it's second year and this was my first year in attendance. I figured it would be the perfect way to break in the XT250 and I definitely wasn't mistaken. This is an event that draws riders of every skill level and background and everyone was so down-to-earth and supportive that I would say it was nearly impossible not to have a good time. Even if the wind was beating the shit out of us the entire time.

The event was sponsored by Fox Racing, Husqvarna, and some other folks. Husky brought out their entire fleet for test rides (but that shit filled up quick) and Fox brought the hospitality in the form of free gear rentals and free bbq. I would guess that about 200+ women showed up to this even which was held at Hungry Valley (which is conveniently located about 45 minutes from me, and admission was free. So, I loaded up my bike, my ice chest, and I hit the road.

We camped:

We rode:

We took a break from the dirt to venture up some unknown roads:

We drank beer and got silly:

and we spectated the mini bike races... whilst drinkin' beers and laughing hysterically at the shenanigans:

It was a fahking glorious good time with some seriously awesome chicks of all skill levels.

Yeah, it was good to get some practice in. A couple of the girls who were with our group were very skilled dirt riders and they were kind enough to offer up some coaching to a total dirt noob.

I was pretty worked by the end of the day but I managed to keep the shiny side up... Lol barely. One of the many things I love about that bike is how light it is. It made it very easy to save on a few occasions.

LOL

I'm not sure I like my dirt bikes until they have hit the ground a few times. I'm ok with not dropping it but I'm probably not trying hard enough if it isn't on the ground occasionally.

This is true. And I definitely expected to dump it a few times given my prowess in the dirt. But I didn't. And I probably wasn't riding hard enough but I was definitely learning. So that was cool.
