Pictures just added to gallery, McKenzie Pass, Oregon
Back on 03 August, of this year I took a ride from my home (sea level+) to McKenzie Pass in Oregon's central Cascade Range. At the 5325-ft summit is a geographic observatory constructed from black lava rock, Dee Wright Observatory. The views are fairly stunning.
I just uploaded some pictures of the ride to my forum Picture Gallery. Once a rider actually gets on McKenzie Pass Highway, it's technical mostly 1 & 2 gear switchback fest. The pictures I just posted are only of the summit area. Hope you enjoy.
Nice pics. Might take a ride down there on a weekend to check it out. Use to camp at Belknap and ride the trail along the river.
Belknap is great... That is a part of the state that people drive past, but not to. It's dead on beautiful country.Clear Lake honours its namesake, it's see the bottom clear... and the fish swim by in schools. I went in to Sisters and got fuel for the little Zed, and DB Java for me.
I don't know if you've spent much time in that part of the Cascades, but a fabulous ride is to ride into Sisters then take the McKenzie Pass from the E. Come back out to Hwy126, then head a little W, gas up at McKenzie Bridge if needed, then hang a Left at Cougar Reservoir, that's the Aufderheide Scenic Drive. My favourite ride in Western Oregon... 66-mi of everything a sport rider could want. It comes out at a covered bridge on Hwy58, near Oakridge. From there one can ride N to Cascade Lakes Scenic Byway. That than takes one past Mt Bachelor and on into Bend, OR. Or you can just head W, which takes one to I-5 at Eugene.
If you ever want ride that, I'd be more than happy to tag along.
