I wanted melbourne and i thought it was a great coincidence the WSB Moto GP was gonna be down the road but she who has the power didn't like the idea of proper seasons similar to the UK. So off we went to Perth and she loved it decision made.......... On the plus side the Ninja wont get as dirty as it does here......

Better bring a shit load of sun screen and a nice hat cos you will need it in Perth.. How long will it take for the bike to be sent over?

it's getting shipped with the rest our our house contents so between 6 - 8 weeks 2 months no bike gonna be a killer but we are going to time it so we get to perth the week our kit has cleared customs. then its just a case of sorting it out (registering, new licence, insurance etc) so hopefully not to long after we get there i should be on the road again.

Welcome mate,

1. you will have to put your bike over the pits to register it over here in WA this could be a total pain in the arse! as rear fender needs to be beyound the back tire with a reflector, so thats the tail tidy fucked! new sound levels just came in too but im not sure of the details.

2. You will be able to drive ride on your british license for three months then transfer to WA license, $100 or so.

3. Perth drivers are the worst in the country, so be very carefull out here.

4. there are a few corners out here and the weather is bike friendly 99% of the time.

5. there are speed cameras everywhere and they are sneaky f#####s too, no signs no warning and hiden behind bushes. But they are mostly carried by nissan x-trails so watch out for them.

6. you will get pulled over the police over here are a little high on power.

thats all i can think of off the top of my head, there are plenty of bikes out here though, although prices of second hand ones has just gone through the roof due to summer.

Where you going to be living?

Liam

Still moving to Australia? Have you started packing yet

slight delay on the move but all going through now house about to be sold should be exchanging contracts mid April which means perth bound first 2 weeks in May....... unfortunatly the ZX6 isn't coming but with money in the bank new bike is inbound........ just a quick query i heard a rumor my bike kit helmet, jacket, kevlar jeans etc..... could get me in bother with the police cause it is not aus safety checked and only done to a British standard is this true?

Only the helmet champ... In Australia you must have a helmet that meets Australian Standards. Which is on par with DOT and SNELL etc.... But it needs to have the aus cert sticker...

An approved motorcycle helmet Complies with Australian/New Zealand Standard AS/NZS 1698:2006 Protective Helmets For Vehicle Users, as amended by Amendment No. 1 of 28 September 2007 and Amendment No. 2 of 27 May 2009; or
Is an earlier version of Australian/New Zealand Standard AS/NZS 1698 or Australian Standard 1698-1988 that was in force at the time of manufacture or importation; and
Has a mark certifying compliance with an above standard.

That will give you greif.
Helmets < Motorcycles < NSW Centre for Road Safety < www.rta.nsw.gov.au

Will give you an overview on helmet requirements.

Nah they ping ya for it...

A local mag actually explained it quite well as the tests done for Australia are slightly different to other countries... Something along the lines of a double impact and a sharp object test, that isn't required in the EU..

I will try and scan that which details the info fairly well and post it up for you, but will need to find that issue at home somewhere I don't believe its online anywhere...

In the mean time have a read of this thread. The points on wearing the non Australian Standards helmet can result in insurance company woes where if deemed you aren't wearing a helmet that doesn't comply could wind you up in a not covered by insurance company if head injury is incurred.

cheers Arlo appreciate the help her indoors likes the idea of a new lid not gonna tell her how much they are over there think i'll just treat her.......pain about the testing we have Sharp testing over here but it's not industry recognised I use the guide to influence my helmet choice and it's surprising as some of the cheaper models come out above the big names such a Shoei Arai and the like. I think this is why it hasn't taken off over here cause its proving that payin loads for a lid doesn't neccesarily give you the safest..... looking forward to getting out next month.

Australia is a nanny country! We have a law on pretty much anything you can imagine! We don't have freedom of choice, the government makes our minds up for us. We are one of the highest taxed 1st world countries in the world but don't expect even decent flat roads. Even reflectors on the bike aren't your decision, we have rules on those too! It was once a great country but just don't expect to be making your own decisions about pretty much anything! That's just my opinion on the state of affairs over here. And Melbourne is the place to be...

was just looking up aust tracks and found this thread....
somebody needs to build more tracks over there.
Wanneroo looks fine for what it is but 1/1.5mi is too short especially being the only track around.

or maybe I guess there's no need when most biking activity is ride the Harley around wearing work boots and singlets lmfao. or have times changed?

I would get a bit bored of having only that one, my local track is 1mi and I didn't get there this summer even though it's 10 miles away and is the only bike track day that offers a nurburging style 'pay and play' which are some pretty good points. but then my bike was also a bit broken for a fair bit of the summer so I probably would have gone if I had the equipment. :p
