2mm = 1 second a lap..

Casey stoner talking about the changes made to his bike in a post Jerez test 'breakthrough'. From MCN:

“We lifted the bike about two millimetres just to get more transfer.

“The problem is we tried this in testing at the end of last year and it didn’t work.

“But then we had a different swingarm pivot point and a different front fork spring in. With the setting we had for the race we weren’t too far away.

“We just needed to lift the bike a bit to get it to transfer better and I had a lot more traction and a lot better braking stability and it was like a different bike.

“The first exit with the same set-up as the race I could only do a 1.41.5.

“We changed it and bang, immediately I did a 40.8 and then got to a 40.5.

“With that set-up I’m sure I could have raced for the podium. We definitely made a big improvement.”

2 mm makes that much difference?! Think I might lift the rear height on my bike, see if I can get to work quicker.

it makes a difference when your a pro racer.

they changed the swing arm pivot point slightly and something with the front forks.... with all the 'slight' changes it alters the geomotry of the bike and effects the handling and braking character of the bike.

so its not just a 2mm rise thats giving the improvment... its the total work done to the suspension tuning. Dosent sound too far fetched man...

when your going balls to the walls... any added stability helps and could make a world of difference.

i doubt anyone would have such an improvment raising a street bike 2mm ...

it has to do with the geomotry of the bike as a whole.
still pretty cool that a small change can drasticly effect handling...

you hear me streached and lowered bikes?

I was just amazed that 2mm ride height would make that much difference, I realise that these machines are very finely tuned but that's pretty amazing.. Just shows what level these guys ride at too I spose.
I'm not really going to play around with my ride height, I don't even notice the difference in my weight before/after a meal/crap makes to the way my bike handles!
