Mod27driver1 2011 Build

A little background on what happened.
Back in 2011 I purchased the bike brand new. Fell in love. At the end of the riding season Septemberish it was getting cold so I put it away for the winter. I cancelled the insurance so I didnt have to pay through winter months. (Where I screwed myself.) October or so the weather got pretty nice for a couple weeks so I decided to take the bike out for a couple days.

Well a buddy of mine caught gravel in front of me, at about 60mph around a corner. A corner that I have taken before with no problems. Well he did all he can to save his bike which he ended up doing. But I was right behind him and to avoid hitting him and oncoming traffic I had to take it in the grass where the front wheel came out from under me and I laid it down and slid into a tree at about 50-55mph. The bike hit the tree then I hit the bike as I was only a few inches behind it.

Bike was toast but I didnt have insurance on it so I had to eat the damages and start saving to repair it. I ended up having to get stitches in my knee.

April of 2012 I had a son so the prior winter and all of 2012 was pretty hard financially so I did nothing with the bike. Finally towards the end of winter this year 2013 I was finally able to start working on it.

The frame was bent, rims bent, fairings gone, left fork was bent. So I had alot of work to do. But luckily I was able to sell some parts I had laying around and found some good deals on parts so it wasnt as bad as I thought it was going to be financially.

So I will update periodically with updates of the build although I am pretty close to getting it back on the road now. Then will slowly be adding things on it in the future.

I actually only started the rebuild in March of this year. So it has really come a long way. Excited to get it back on the road!

Here is some pics when I first bought her. Sorry most pics are just from a cell phone so not the best quality. When the bike is done I will be able to get nicer pics.

And then after the crash.. There are a couple pics of my knee so sorry if its a little gruesome for you guys.

For the 2012 season I purchased wheels and forks and other small things to get it on the road atleast. Didnt swap the frame yet or purchase fairings for it.

New forks on, and radiator hoses

Also had to replace the oil pan.

Stripped her down during the winter. Then stored it as I started saving for some parts!

First few things purchased. Fairings, tank, steering damper.

Painted the bolts black on the damper.

Tear down started. Actually didnt take long at all to do.. Well sense I had it pretty stripped down it only took me a couple hours to get it down to the motor and another couple hours to get it back to where it was when I started.

Forks off

Rear shock out. Pulling the swingarm off.

Frame off. Lonely motor.

Comparison of the old frame and new. Shows where the old one was bent.

What the new frame neck looks like. And what my bent one looks like.

Rear sub frame back on and started doing some of the wiring. Well just plugging everything back in.

Mounted the ram air and thought I could throw the front headlights on but ended up having to pull it back off. Got ahead of myself.

Mounted the tail fairings.

Sorry this pic is super blurry but mounted the GPR stabalizer mount. Actually pretty cool. Just takes place of the stock steering stem nut.

Son decided he wanted to help out a bit Was awesome. He is already loving toys with motors. I take him to the local dealership and he makes motorcycle noises whenever I sit him on anything. Pretty cool.

At this point I ran out of things to do for a while as I waited to build up a little more cash. So I got bored and Took the rear shock out and painted it along with painting the triple tree and forks. I took the triple tree out and painted it separate.. Then I decided to paint the forks as well so I kinda did a lot of unnecessary disassembling but I wasn't in any rush to have it back together so wasn't a big deal.

This was about the beginning of April. Just to keep everyone on kind of a timeline up until current.

Here are some pics of the painting.
Taking the shock out.

Spring taped and painted.

I also painted the bottom linkage black. Didnt take any pics of it but here is the end result.

A little before and after

After the shock is back in..

Painting of the triples and the forks. I painted with plasti dip so I can peel it off later. I plan on anodizing the forks black during the winter months probably. Just dont have the funds to do it this year.

Triple painted.

Back on the bike.

Then decided to paint the forks as well.

Completed. I think it turned out pretty good.

Next did front and rear brakes. I went with Galfer DOT lines because motomummy.com was having a sale. Buy the front lines get the rear free.
Did the brakes probably the last week in April I believe.

Rear.
