Started riding last May, bug hit me pretty hard and I did 9,400 miles. Bought a Triumph Bonneville in early May. At the same time my wife also picked up a Bonneville and my youngest kid (22) picked up a 2008 Ninja 250.
When you first buy a bike, you have no idea which direction you are going to grow in; what it is about the bike that turns you on. If serene fair weather riding then later you go gold wing. If dress-up or weekend 'sons of anarchy' fantasies you'll end up with a Harley. If it turns out that you love adrenaline you end up going sport bike. I had no idea what I'd like so I started with a retro-bike and glad that I did. But, I quickly learned that I love the adrenaline and as I got a couple thousand miles under my belt began to push things a bit, watched a lot of vids on cornering, started to wish I could ride with people who knew what they are doing.
Last week, the youngest picked up a 2008 R6 and I picked up 2008 ZX-6R special edition.
Riding isn't enough, so it's my goal this summer to be able to completely change out tires, tighten chains, and do pretty much anything else to the bike that needs to be done. Last year I did a complete fairing change on the Ninja, and replaced the stock exhaust with a Yoshi; but I had to rely on a shop to put on the Perilli Sport Demons that I bought for it.
This weekend I'll be installing a fender eliminator and flush mount front blinkers on the R6; and if time permits frame sliders and swing arm spools on my ZX-6R.
Hard to believe that a year ago today I had zero interest in motorcycles or motorcyling. For long years some friends had tried to talk me into it but I always blew them off. Little did I know that they were trying to help me. But, now I know.
I'm stoked for what will come this year.
