I ask my atlanta riders...where did you get duplicate keys made?
I only have 1 key.

Called a gang of locksmiths only to be told $125 (just to duplicate a keys?!)
Just now just got off the phone with a place that specified they do bikes, kawais etc. Dude doesn't have a duplicator and would need to do it by hand and is worried about messing up my blank. Told him I want my tank re-keyed to match. He said $135 to duplicate 2 keys and re-key the gas lid. This is the best deal I've heard so far but damn. Is this kind of normal? I like/miss how for a car you just go to wal-mart/home depot where ever, spend $5 and you have 2-4 keys made.
If you know somewhere that will do it cheaper than what I've been told, and with a better guarantee please let me know.

Hmmm....
My key is on the way from eBay and I thought you could just get it cut somewhere like WalMart.
Glad you posted this.
x2 on wanting to know where I can get it done.

I've tried various home depots from Cumming, to alpharetta, to gwinnett and was told the same story. They don't have a cartridge to match and aren't confident in cutting it.
I thought its a simple duplicator. Put in the original key. Machine analyses the grooved and duplicates it on a blank! I don't know but I'm going to try ace hardware tonight. I never tried walmart some Susuki guys have been successful at wal mart but they have cartridges for the susuki car.
I'll keep you guys updated. I might go with this locksmith mainly because I want my tank re-keyed but I'd much prefer a cheaper option.
Plus I'm getting tired of having just 1 key. should I loose it I'd have to pay a minimum of $125 to get 1 key made so...

Just googled it, Ace Hardware apparently has the cutting technology according to some Kawi riders.

Either way I don't understand what is so hard about duplicating a key, but there might be another side to it I don't know

There is guy who posts on the ZRX message board. He will make keys for you. All you need is the lock code. It's stamped on the outside of the barrel of the seat lock. It's Z followed by 4 numbers, something like Z1234. He turns them around in the same day usually. I've had him make keys for my ZRX and my ZX6. ZRXOA Message Board |

He may be the go-to guy if Ace Hardware doesnt or my local Kawi dealer charges me an arm and a leg.
