winter jacket.

ok, so im determined to ride until the snow comes. have placed my bike in storage, and then took it out cause i couldnt do it lmao

so i need advice from ppl who ride in the cold (40* or less) on a jacket.
are theyre any textile jackets that are good for cold weather riding, that come with decent liners inside? and dont have mesh patches in them...

not looking to break the bank on a jacket, as i already have 3 (all summer jackets tho)

just something to help keep me warm, and keep the WIND out without having to wear 5 layers haha

I just got the "FirstGear" Softshell jacket liner.
Its fleece lined & is said to be water proof & WIND proof.
It just arrived today, so Iv not got to test it yet.(my Christmas gift to me)LOL
Fits great under my astars jacket.

Damn I need to go ride.

"oldninjadude" that is a good find! please let us know how it worked out and at what temp! how thick is it, does it fit nicly under ur jacket?

Is ur A* perf leather, leather or textile?

just like "ffxzx6r" i am also riding in cold here in NC and after about 30 miles or so.... my textile or leather jacket gives in...

Also need suggestions on good sports bike riding winter gloves under 100 . Thanks

I don't know how these perform but somewhere, I think on motorcyclesuperstore.com I saw thin gloves you put on under your regular ones to stay warm.

I Ride: Cafe Racer, Commuter, a Dirty one, and a Land Speed Racer.
A* Drystar gloves are pretty good. I've been running them for a couple of seasons. They'll keep you warm for a bit, but eventually you cool off as your body temp begins to drop. Pair them with a set of heated grips and you can ride all day!

Ok guys, for a bit more info, I usually wear a md, but I got this in a small so it would
fit snug under my jacket, & its a perfect fit, Is only about the thickness of a sweat shirt.
The jacket I use in winter is my astars TZ-1.
Its a heavy weight leather, but does have some perfs on each side of the chest.
Only about half the size of your hand, But enough to let in a bit of air.
On all but the coldest of days 45f & up the jacket liner blocks this good enough.
But when its 40 or below, I need something more.

The new firstgear liner is fleece lined with the wind-blocker outer layer.
I did wear it to town in the car & put the windows down & stayed warm, it does block the wind.
Is not bulky, & I think with just one Under Armour mock T underneath, It will do the job.

I think this with my "Riders comfert"neck warmer & silk glove-liners will keep me warm to 30f or below.

Here's a link to where I got it>>> Firstgear Softshell Jacket Liner - RevZilla <<<

I think this is going to become one of my favorite pieces of gear.

Marc, I have the contra jacket, I use with a hoddie, or a pull over fleece with a zip collar to combat the wind, works great, been riding in the 20 degree weather every day!

Its in the mid 40's to 50's here and I have a nylon jacket and I wear a long sleeve shirt under it and I am comfy. When I rode when it was in the teens I had my joe rocket jacket (not sure what the material was) I wore 2 hoodies and the jacket and I was warm. I had 2 pairs of flannel pants and regular work pants and stayed warm for the legs. Only feet, hands and face was cold.

yea i stay warm for short rides all layered up. but that can all go away as fast as i can twist my wrist lol. def on highway speeds i feel all the cool air coming through. plus the longer the ride, the less warm i am.

still contimplating the liner, vs a "zipper vent" style jacket.. rather then the freeair mesh type contra.

well thanks for your input OND! more then likely ill be picking up the liner

Glad to help, & your right on the $$$ about the cold @ speed.
At high speed on a long ride, if there's a chink in your armor, even a small one
The wind & cold will get in, It sucks out your body heat, A good ride can go down hill fast.

You know the best thing might be one of those insulated coveralls, The ones hunters use.
Wear it over your gear. You might also look like a redneck. But a warm redneck.

If it ever stops raining & I get my wheel back on the bike, I'll give a real report.

Time for a new jacket, looking at this A*

Anybody here have the Alpinestar JD-1?

ALPINESTARS JD-1 Leather Motorcycle Jacket - Outlet - Cycle Gear

I really like the look of the jacket, and the fact that it has the removable liner\pads. I'm just a little unsure if I want to spend that much on a jacket though. Are the A* jackets really worth spending the cash on?
