As for the differences between the two jackets. leather is skin, skin is different on all creatures =) It could have gotten wet, dried out, stored differently, pee'd on, you name it.

Use a quality leather conditioner and it should soften right up.
Well I didn't buy it from cycle gear but I did just pickup some nice conditioner on sale on Amazon... How often do you condition? My jackets are still soft and it's been almost a year for some

If you dig around on their information it will say "cycle gear exclusive" or something similar. Those are generally not made to the same standard that some of their other gear is made. It's infinitely better than the Bilt of Sedici lines of products. I put a link below to a Dainese jacket that is a "Cycle Gear exclusive". There is zero chance I'd pay $500 for that. You can get other non-exclusive jackets from Dainese that are the same price.

Dainese has kept their Cycle Gear exclusive product quality reasonably high. It put Frank Thomas out of business building junk for Cycle Gear. They went from being a well respected leather company to being considered absolute garbage because of the quality of product they made for Cycle Gear. It was a good idea to have a huge network of stores selling your stuff in the US but, they started to make cheap price point junk to meet Cycle Gears requirements for price over quality and their reputation went down the drain. (Yes, I know there were other financial and managerial issues at Frank Thomas that contributed to their failure)

Now Cycle Gear commissions the Bilt and Sedici lines as their own since no one else is willing to put their name and reputation on that price point garbage.

In any case, buyer beware and you get what you pay for both are true with Cycle Gear.

DAINESE - Veloce Leather Motorcycle Jacket - Leather - Jackets - Street - Cycle Gear

That's pretty eye opening... The one here sells the same major models from A stars and dainese but the leather felt more dried out... Maybe they're been on the rack for years...

Be careful folks, second skin is very, very important in a close circuit, race track environment where asphalt is designed to be incredible porous, grippy to optimize traction. Think of it like this..... If a race track eats rubber faster than street asphalt, what would it do to a lesser quality leather suit sliding @ 100+ mph ? I've seen cheap suits disappear and the damage to the rider thereafter, e.g. Road rash, or worse. The higher quality suits cost more for sure, but it's added insurance and safer. Top brands used by the pros are usually crash tested well.

Ride safe, get in the right gear.
