Track helmet

Hi

I am starting to prep my bike for track days next year and just wondered with race helmets and tracks do they need that safety sticker as a compulsory rule??
I have a schuberth sr1 that's an awesome helmet and is actually built for the track but doesn't have a safety sticker on it, will I be able to use it??

If memory serves in the UK helmets must have D loops and they now carry a list of approved helmets as you can buy the stickers online so its not a be all and end all.
I also think they carry out a visual inspection as well.

best bet is to contact the organizer just to be sure.

The ones I ride with, no flip up's.
Must be full face, and not damaged.
Never had anyone look at or for stickers, so you should be good to go.
It's your butt, most trust you care about it.
The bike can be a problem to others so they check it out closely.

Prep? Next year?

Or there's still time and you could still sneak one in this year!
I'm keeping an eye out to maybe get one in myself but will book close to the day when I know the weather will be ok.

A sticker is compulsory.

And they take all this stuff pretty seriously and do a rider, bike, gear check most times while you're lining up to go out on track.

Track helmet

That's what I thought the helmet is in the scheme just mine doesn't carry the sticker for some reason? It's an actual race developed helmet so don't no why it hasn't got it. I bought it from
Helmet city which is where I buy all my helmets!! Think I'll contact them and check that it is suppose to have one and if so get schuberth to supply me one.

I got my current helmet from Helmetcity also. Very good range, price and service so they should be able to help you out.
Brands events are mostly run by MSV who are a very good operator and check very closely.
A few years back they cracked right down - and said no to my perfectly good 2 pc Spidi suit. I had even previously crashed there in it!
Lucky they had 1pc suits for hire for the day.
Now I just wear the 1pc to all track events although I know some still allow it.

I have just been on the phone to them. They said run it up and they will apply the sticker on it. Best get rid of all the wax that I apply to keep it shiny or it might not stick.
I think all my life other gear is spot on. I have a furygan one piece which I've hardly used on the road. Much prefer my 2pc for road use.

I think it really depends greatly on organization. I've ridden with some that don't even check the helmets. They say they have to be full-face (no flip-up), and DOT or Snell or ECE approved, but nobody checks. While other orgs check and usually look for the age of the helmet. The picky ones don't allow helmets that are more than 5 years old.

Nice job on trying to be as prepared as possible. I don't like taking any chances either. Definitely check your organization's rules or even call them to verify. In my part of the country only 1 of about 5 track day orgs. even check your gear before hand. Our race org. is strict with gear as they should be though. Helmets have to be at least Snell 2010 compliant with no obvious signs of a significant hit. For next season it has to be Snell 2015 compliant so I actually need to buy a new helmet even though my Arai will only be 4 years old at the start of the season.

You should be able to find a webpage for whatever group you will be riding with that list all the requirements as far as bike preps and gear. As far as the helmets, like someone else stated, I have never seen a place where flip ups/modular helmets were allowed. A good quality helmet in my mind is a must. Knowing you have a quality helmet on your head with put the question at ease and give you more confidence as well. When I first started I had a pretty low budget/ shitty brand of boots and it was always on mind. As soon as I picked up a pair of better boots I was WAY more confident. Maybe just me and my own paranoia. But again, just look for the group that is sponsoring the track day to see their requirements as far as what the bike specs are needed and gear specs. IE coolant for the bike, break lights, back protectors etc etc. Take it slow to learn the lines AND HAVE A GREAT TIME! Welcome to the speed crack pipe

That sticker looks like something you'd get from the sanctioning body during a tech inspection, kind of like they do with roll cages in racecars here in the states. They generally do the inspection ahead of the event day and put a sticker on the cage to indicate you passed, because the inspection is complex enough that they can't do it the day of. The sticker is not something that comes with the cage, as proper installation matters as much as the cage design.

I would ask the group that organizes the track day you're planning to attend what kind of tech inspection is required for your bike and gear. You may find that your helmet is fine, but you're missing some other important detail they require, like safety wire on certain fasteners or something.
