Great write up! Its good to have some how-to's coming back around here. On the 05/06 model, there is another bolt right near the first one that you pictured, instead of being out by the header.

The only thing I would add is that you want to do this in a place in the driveway/garage where you do not normally ride or park your bike. The coolant that splashes out of the drain pan (and it will splash) is going to leave a very slippery mess for probably about a 5-10 foot diameter. You definitely do NOT want any of that on your tires.

Setp one: Obtain 5-8 squares of clean, dry toilet paper.
Setp two: some prefer to neatly fold while others prefer the "wad" technique, but you need to condense the squares into a thicker unit of TP.

...do I really need to continue?

Using 50% white distilled vinegar with 50% distilled water is a safe, good radiator flush to get any corrosion out as well.

The toyota or honda type II long life antifreeze are probably better to use than prestone. They will last for a minumum of 5 yrs and cost as much as the prestone stuff. Also provides excellent protection for aluminum engines. I actually use engine ice because of track requirements.

Throttle up, knee down and pray!

Good write up. I did mine awhile back when my brother was down.

Oh and by the way, since we are on the subject... FYI- If you go riding and then you turn the bike off and coolant starts overflowing out of the overflow bottle, that means you need a new radiator cap. Write that down just in case.

Or you have a huge air bubble in your system! Same thing happened on my 08

just flushed my cooling system using this how to plus my service man. I little time consuming but really easy. Used the same stuff daddy did minus 1 gal of distilled water and added distilled white vinegar during the flushing process.
