So i just ordered myself a new pair of helmet headphones (my old ones went away with my totaled helmet last year)
You can easily do this mod with a pair of crappy dollar store headphones and a radioshack 3.5mm splitter:
What you'd do is pop the speakers out of the hosing and get double sided sticky tape (or velcro) and stick it to the inside of your helmet. It's pretty simple and there are plenty of how-to's for that on the internets. However, the only downside to tht method i find, is that the stupid splitter is too damn thick and u have to dig into the styrofoam stuff in the helmet for it to fit comfortably, with the ones i bought you dont.
So moving on, i purchased a pair of IMC Motorcom HS-200 headphones for $40 on eBay. I tested the sound quality, and compared to my old ones these are effing amazing. Loud, bassy, and thin as hell. STEP 1
Remove the inner liner of your helmet (if you can, if not you're SOL) STEP 2
Figure out the best spot to place you're headphones. This might take a little trial and error. For me it was just above the inflatable cheek pad. STEP 3
When sticking the headphones in, make sure to allow the wire to go up into the padding above your head. STEP 4
Route the connection wire out the back of your helmet and snap the liner back in place. STEP 5
Now's a good time to find a place to hide the wire for when you aren't using it. Luckily for me my Exo-1000 has a little hump in the back lower padding, so I was able to stuff it up in there and not feel it at all. You may need to dig into the styrofoam to ensure an irritation free ride...or just let it hangggggg STEP 6
Now it's time to connect the wires and jam outt!!! These headphones have a springy type wire that is long enough to reach the inner pocked on my jacket. If you keep your ipod on your bike or in your pant pocket you're gonna need an extension wire, which u can just get from radioshak. ENJOY!!
