Gear suggestions

Hey ladies

I am currently rocking a leather jacket that I bought for special occasions which has turned into my riding jacket. I'm looking for an armored jacket with a zip out liner that's good for mostly summer riding, but with the liner is good for 40-degree weather. I prefer leather, but I know those can get pricey. Every jacket I've tried on fits me weird. I'm 5'9'' and about 175 (athletic build). I have larger biceps, broad shoulders, small waist, and wide hips. Anyone have any suggestions on jackets or brands that seem to work for ya'll?

the best thing to do would be to go into a shop and try on different sizes and brands of jackets. From manufacturer to manufacturer, their sizes run differentley.

I've been doing that, but haven't found a jacket I really like. I thought I might see what other female riders preferred so I could maybe narrow it down. There are so many brands and types out there! I'll eventually get a race suit because I'll probably be getting into track days, but until then, I need a street-friendly jacket.

I am 6ft tall and broad shouldered, and girl let me tell you, I feel your pain. Living in AK doesn't help in the gear department. So far I only have textiles, but Joe Rocket seems to fit me really well. Allegedly their leather fits the same as their textiles per their size chart. Icon's Contra textile also fits me really well, but I haven't had any luck with their leather. If you haven't given any of the Joe Rocket gear a shot, try it out. Since you're in the lower 48 shipping from most places is free, so you've really got nothing to lose. I've been really pleased with my jacket so far. Tons a features and at a really fair price. Good luck!

What brands did you try on so far?

Joe Rocket is pretty baggy for the more larger sized rider.

Alpinestars got a broad selection for ladies
Stella GP Plus Leather Jacket - Stella - Moto | Alpinestars

Icon looks sweet but less functional
Icon Women's Overlord Prime Jacket - Street Motorcycle - Motorcycle Superstore

Rev'It is build for petite so you might wanna go up a few sizes from your normal BUT they got awesome models with up to 2 different liners for any kind of weather.

Icebox: Finally!! A fellow lady rider who knows what I'm talking about!! I've had a bunch of little petite girls trying to give me advice and I just wanna laugh because THEY HAVE NO IDEA. I love the Joe Rocket look, but I've only been able to try on the textile. Maybe I'll just order one and see how it fits!

Thanks, Area51! How does yours hold up? I had an alpinestars once and it fell apart after wearing it a month...

zvenkruspe, I've tried Joe Rocket, Speed and Strength, Icon, Alpinestars, and Teknic. The Icon jackets fits decent and so did the Joe Rocket. Speed and Strength and Alpinestars fit kinda tight in the shoulders and short in length. Teknic fit pretty good, but their leather jacket that I like is a little more expensive than what I want to pay. I haven't tried the Rev'it gear, but I've been told by a couple of people that it's good quality. Do you own one? Does it hold up pretty good?

I wish I had some info to give you on leather, but sadly I don't. I'm glad someone else shares my plight. I was looking at some jacket the other day that was available in tall sizes. I was like "oh snap! tall sizes!!". Then I looked at the size chart. Apparently 5'6" makes you tall. FML. Anyway, something I was thinking about, some local stores will order stuff for you, and if it doesn't fit, they just keep it and put it out on their sales floor. You're not out any money. Worth looking into. Oh, and if you do get a JR in leather, let me know how it fits!

For sure! What side are you on? We should get Indy riders together and make a day trip somewhere.

Oh I'll definitely let you know how the JR leathers fit. I've run into the height thing a lot. I found some talls as well, but you're right, 5'6'' is "tall". I have that problem with riding pants too. Always too short. Someone needs to pull their head out of their ass and realize that there are some tall drinks of water out there and it's not the frickin 1950s where everyone was short... Anyway, I'll get a hold of a local dealer and see if they will get some JR jackets in so I can try a few. Thanks for the advice! I'll give you an update when I find one I like.

ok so update on the JR leathers... L is too tight in the shoulder area, XL is a little too baggy around the waist and torso. That's as far as leather Radar model goes. I tried a REV'it leather jacket, the Galactic. A 42/32 fit pretty decent and I could even do a 44/34 and it doesn't look or feel ridiculous and gives me a little more room. However, the Galactic is $500, so I'm gonna have to save up before I can get that one. I'll probably keep looking, but start saving up for the Galactic. That thing is baaaaaaaaad

Holy smokes, this is the Lady's Room! This is the first time I've been in here. I'll have to be more careful when perousing the "active topics" list.
