I Ride: 2004 Kawasaki ZX-6R
I just upgraded from a 250 to a 626 after 7mos. I'm really glad I got my feet wet with the 250, especially being 5'2''. Glad to have the street familiarity now that I'm dealing with more power, weight and height. I'm sure you have something by now... let us know what you ended up with!

I Ride: 04 Zx6r for life! ;)
Another kawigirl here! Lol as it's been said before everybody is different and you need to do what's comfortable for you and what you feel safe with. My first bike was a 2000 CBR F 4 600 cc.
I had never ridden a dirt bike moped nothing on two wheels. but I had a lot of fear and respect for that motor and I treated it right and I still to this day ha. not gone down and I've moved up to my ninja and I love it.

Everything that MoM said +1 agreed with 100%

I Ride: 08 6R and a full carbon bicycle.
I'm all for equality so I say you can do what a guy can do. Your stature should be able to handle the dimensions of 600.

That being said, take the motorcycle training course first. Also, find a friend's 600 or go to a dealership and sit on it for a long while. Keep the kickstand down and get use to making the bike upright. Play with the controls and get used posture of the bike.

When I bought my first ever bike a year ago, I did all the above (but I bought my bike first). I also went back and forth on my driveway getting use to the clutch friction-zone. After a long while of doing that, I went around the block. After a few days of that, I went a little further and so and so forth. After a month, I took it on the highway and never looked back.

I never regretted buying a 600 for my first bike. If you are strapped for funds, I would say you would kick yourself for buying a smaller bike about 3 months in.
