The diag wire that I ground to the negative battery comes out of a connector that plugs into the 4 pin diag connector. I was under the impression that all the bikes came with the that plug already installed. I'm at work right now so I'll check into this matter when I get home, I've got an 07 so should be easy to figure out.

As for the code storage that's where dealer 1 and dealer 2 modes come it. dealer 1 wont show past codes where dealer 2 will. I know this is the same all the way up through the 09 bikes we had when I was in school, and I don't see why they would change anytime soon.
