what tyres to choose?

What tyres would be a good choice for my '08 ZX6-R ?

I do mostly motor-way mileage, but also like the twisties too on a weekend (when i can get out).

Suggestions please

Cheers,
Pete

After i passed my test, this is the first bike i have bought, so...

I'm starting to feel like these tyres would want changing soon, as they have started to square off a little, while i have been gaining experience / confidence.

Some friends have said go for a different compound.

Any suggestions?

Cheers,
Pete.

Michelin pilot power 2ct, i use them on the road and love em, the centre is harder then the outside of the tyre, so u get nice grip while cornering but also get a tyre which can do a fair bit of mileage.

Pilot power 2ct's---actually have the same compound center as the pilot power, but yes the "edges" are of a softer compound for potentially more grip..But mileage wise, they will be just like regular pilot powers.

I have ran a few different brands , and for me, I like the feel and life of the Metzeler M3 (sportec) and the Pirelli diablo rosso---but about 260 a set for the Metzelers, and the rosso's I think were just over 300

Tires are individual preference, based on your riding style, road conditions, and climate. But I am sure people will be glad to offer up their opinions.

Try the Bridgestone BT-002rs. They are tremendously better then pilot powers. I run them on the track and they are very grippy and I have gotten 4 trackdays out of them and they still have enough tread left for atleast 1-2 more good days of track riding. they are also great on the street. And most sites are selling them for $259 both tires.

Keep the suggestions following peeps.

I do notice that most of your opinions are based around 'track usage', thats not what I'm going to be doing with my bike.

Cheers,
Pete.

The Metzelers I said, would be for street useage...The conti attacks have a few people that love them, again on the street.
Pilot powers and PP 2CT, in my opinion dont make a very good street tire...short life and not very good in the rain. But when warmed up nice and on a good road, they stick very well.

I have only used 2cts and enjoy the hellout of them. Mostly run twisties and not much highway besides the usuall rip now and then but that's just the area I live in. It's really personal preference.

In my area, its a 50 mile ride just to get to the twisties, then at the end it's about 100 mile "slabbing it" home...so of the 400-500 mile ride, about a third is just "droning" so---those PP2ct's only lasted me 3800 miles, since I ride over 15,000 a year, and some years over 25,000---it isn't my tire of choice. But yes, alot of people do like them...I am just saying, they don't meet my needs, and probably not the needs of the post starter...imo

For the price I find the Conti Road Attack to be a great street tire. I put a set on my SV650 at the beginning of 2008. I have nothing bad to say about them.

I'm in the North of England and ride all year, at the moment have got Bridgestone Bt014's, they're good in the wet (which it seems to be most of the time) but they are beginning to sq. off due to winter riding. I've heard good things about the newer bt016's, they have a harder compound in the center of the tire to slow down the squaring, I might go for them, or the metz's, they're supposed to be good for street riding.

My opinion, hope it helps...

im running 2ct and they have done 12000ks and still have about 6000 more left in them and i ride to work 6 days a week and i also live in the hills so the soft rubber on the sides makes for some nice hill riding too

I'm in pretty much exactly the same situation as you Pete - passed my test and rode a 400 for a month but then bought a new 6R in September, so I'm busy squaring off my tyres while I get more confident.

How many miles have you put on it, out of interest? I'm only on around 1700 as I've not ridden much since it started to freeze every night...
