cylinder head questions

I just pick up a cylinder head for a kawi zx6r. How do i tell if the head is for a 03/04 or a 05/06. And would a 03/04 cylinder head work on a 05/06 bottom end.

The 05 06 head has better cams, better combustion chamber, bigger valves. To find out what year it is look up the part numbers on the head or cams. Sorry don't know staight off.

Yeah, they don't always have numbers on them. I guess you could measure the size of the valves and work out what year from that, 05-06 were bigger. Look up the sizes in the on line manuals.

I Ride: 03 ZX6R BMCNPR Frankentrackbike
They are interchangeable, so it won't hurt anything, you may just not get as much power. 05-06 cams have adjustable cam sprockets, 03-04s do not, so there's another clue.

the head i got has no cam. I am going to try and messure the valves to help me tell what it is. I was looking for a spare head for my 05 I would have like to sent it out to make some more power out of it. I didnt no there was so much diffrent betwwen 03 and 05. Doses anyone got any input on what I can do to my 05 for it to start making more power. I alreday took the secondary throttle flaps out. And did the euro trip "wire jump".

I got an 05-06 rr head for my 03 636, it has K2 stamped on it. My 03 636 head had adjustable cam sprockets. I think you're better off comparing valves so you know for sure. You could go for an 05-06 rr head with cams if you can find one, it has race cams and ports reshaped, stiffer valve springs for higher rev limit and bigger valves again. Or tune the ignition and injection, degree cams, porting, balance, blueprint etc. What you do depends on budget. Most do full exhaust system, race filter, PC 3 custom map to start with. Maybe lighten the bike to get more out of what's there, often cheaper than engine work.
