Hey guys, i got experience riding, but im no expert. Im upgrading my bike and i'm about to buy a 2002 ZX-6R since i feel confident on handling a bigger engine. However, the bike im buying has been lowered 2" according to the previous owner. He states hes never had trouble on it or with taking turns and griding out the bottom. But i just want to know if riding a zx6r thats been lowered 2" is going to make it harder to ride or not for me? I dont do racing or anything crazy on my bike and im mostly going to be using it for everyday riding around town/highway, no extreme turning at like 70mph. The bike does fit me perfectly and im able to stand flat footed comfortably at a stand still, so i figure this is a plus for someone like me whos still learning some things. But for normal turning will this bike be alright and should be fine on ground clearance? The bike is also in great condition and has been treated well by the previous owner, so from what ive read i think it should be fine, but i just wanted to get some imput. thanks.

Put that thing back up to stock height. If it feels good now it will feel even better stock.

I would, but im strapped for cash as it is and im getting a real good deal on this bike. And im planning on selling the bike in the spring time anyways and getting something newer once my cash flow improves. sooo this isnt going to be a long term bike for me.

Dont think it will hurt anything. It will not be as agile though. But it will be a bit more stable in a straight line

It's perfectly fine. My 08 is 2 inches lower, and I still embarrass some of the guys I ride with in the corners.
Stock would be an improvement in handling height wise, but nothing wrong with 2 down.

2" won't make a huge change, but yes stock height is better.

When they designed the bike...
Well, I'll put it this way: Who do you think knows/knew better? A) A bunch of engineers specializing on motorcycles and weight distribution and hours or R&D or B) Some guy who wanted his bike to look "cooler."

Stock is better, Lowered bikes handle like shit.
But it all depends on how tall you are.
You don't have to stand flat footed on a bike to ride it. as long as you can get the balls of your feet down,
Your good to go.

i know i dont need to be flat footed to ride the bike - was just stating that im atleast comfortable on the bike position wise. But i just want to make sure im not going to be at a huge disadvantage with this bike being 2" lower

lol I tip toe on mine cuz I didn't wanna lower it. but no you won't be at a huge disadvantage, unless you wanna be scraping knees.

Well, if im not doing any extreme riding, i shouldnt have an issue with going that low in turns wouldnt you say? I'm basically using this bike as a learning 600cc bike, before i go out and buy a brand new 2011 bike. So for "normal" riding - i should be alright?

Mine is lowered. I'm only 5'4, so it has to be. I don't know the difference in handling because this is my first bike. But it never scrapes the ground or anything even when going over speed bumps.

2" is a pretty substantial drop, if you corner at a decent lean you will scrape the pegs. I'm not quite sure how short others dogbones are, but honestly if you're not planning on taking many twisties with it then it should be fine.
Also check to see if they're adjustable lowering links if they are then raising it back to stock height shouldn't cost you a thing.
