HElp...I just had the chain adjusted on the bike about a month ago...and its loose again....I have a 2008 ZZR600 with 13k....Extended Swing arm!!!

I had it done at the local Ridenow....its a national Bike shop...I dint think that at 13k I would need a new chain??

Not sure but it might have something to do with the extended swingarm wearing it out faster. But... I just changed mine out with 18k on it and it was probably good for another 2000 but had some tight spots.

How often do you service the chain? I clean and lube mine about every 300 miles or so. With good servicing of the chain they should last a good long time if you're not doing clutch up's and the like. lol

No WHeelies!!! I take it easy on it!! mostly hiway driving

every 300 miles...I do 300 miles everyweek and it had been a few months since the last service...there are some tight spots on it!!.... Clutch ups??

I have been riding for about 5 months and have not got up to wheelie it up!!! yet

Haha, I was thinkin...did anyone read the extended swing arm part?? Clutch ups would def be hard with stretch hence the hole purpose of the stretch. With a strectch you probably get on the throttle pretty hard a lot and that can be hard on the chain, check to see your sprockets aren't wearing away too quickly also since your havin trouble with the chain. On/off/on/off throttle jerking will put a lot of pressure on it also

I am thinking of how I ride...and sometimes I use the engine to break!!! probably not a good idea??? thinking that puts pressure on the chain as well

Did you put it on a stand & spin it? Its common to find a loose spot or two.
But you want it adjusted to the tighter parts of the chain.

Just depends on how loose it is, You may need a new chain.

it has actually rattled on parts(swingarm) of the bike...

Engine braking isn't going to over stress the chain. On the track I'm engine braking all day long. Slipper clutch takes place of the rear brake (which I never use much anyway).

And yes... doing ANY wheelies on that bike with an extended swingarm is gonna be damn near impossible... and probably end badly.. lol

can we point out that a chain isn't a "set it and forget it" type of thing...how many miles have you ridden in the month since it's been adjusted? You said you do about 300 a week, which puts you at about 1200 miles or so; its probably due for adjustment anyway. If its loose enough that it is rattling on the swing arm, then replace it; you likely won't be able to take up that much slack with the adjustments at the wheel.

is it a decent chain or just a cheap one, seen as you have a extended arm maybe its been made up of a few bits of others?
if so
go for either a good new one ordered at the length you need (all in one) or go for a standard swing arm and new chain sprockets etc

i do wheelies (well try) and give it some abuse, i oil it every other week and check it for wear etc, and its still ok but it wasnt a cheap one

#20 ·
OK guys I need a new chain....what do you recommend?

thank you

DID Chain
Izumi
Heavy Duty Hyper O-Ring
go for a good make you'll probs need to go for front and rear sprockets to ?? maybe

#22 ·
I would start with a good chain and new sprockets and keep it lubed up and see how that goes..

#24 ·
Mine is a 140 link(extneded arm) 525. the Sprockets look good!! so I have to Recommendations for DID??

#25 ·
I'd go with D.I.D ive never had back luck with them. I think normally you would change sprockets and chain at the same time (i could be wrong).

Change your sprockets. I don't care what they look like, change them.

Im running a 520 EK Gold chain with my swingarm ext. no problems what so ever... (converted from the stock -525 15/40- to a -520 14/45-)
