this is my first post here with you guys. i just bought an 07 zx6r mad cheap cuz the motor was making horrible sounds. it only has 13,886 miles on it. i checked the cct and it wasnt the problem. so i tore into it expecting to find bad valve buckets. all were fine. so i dug a little deeper. dropped the motor to remove the head. i found the number 1 piston to be hitting the exhaust valves. at this point im going to replace the valves and the piston. my issue is that id like to bore it out while im here doing all this work anyway and i cant find a big bore kit. so then i start to look for a stock piston and rings and cant find them anywhere either. do you guys know what my options are at this point? ive only owned the bike for 2 days so i dont know what stuff this model has available. its already got a bazaaz fuel injection management unit on it. k&n air filter and an acropovic evo full exhaust system on it. but all that does me no good without a piston. lol. any help is greatly appreciated. thanks

why is the piston hitting the valve? Has someone replaced the head gasket with a thinner unit? have you looked on bikebandit or ronaires sites for parts or info? not sure about bore kits tho

with just one piston hitting the valves i would look into it further. it may have bearing damage somewhere below.

As said above since its only one piston I'd check the bearings. As for the big bore kit, you could always just use 636 pistons.

yeah im gonna pull the cylinder when i have sunlight to check the rod bearing and the piston pin. im also gonna bolt the exhaust cam back in the head and check the vlave clearence. im on the dealer program with ronayers.com and cant find anything on the parts fiche for the pistons at all. im gonna call them tomorrow as well. but even still, i really dont wanna go stock since the labor is the same regardless of what parts i put in. except haveing the cylinders bored out if i can get the big bore kit.

Not really sure to be honest with you, I just saw your post and it got me thinking lol, of course you would need to hone the cylinders out some but not sure if they are longer then the 07-08s but its worth looking in to.

I would assume you can use the 636 pistons and use your old connecting rods. Yeah you will have to open up the cylinder walls on a block that really isn't all that strong to begin with. But all that work you could get a running motor for around 800 to 1000 bucks drop it in and have a load less milage and be running in a week. I would say swap it first then experiment with the old.
Oh and I am under the assumption that cylinder one bearing has failed and if you pull it apart it will sludged up due to a lack of maintenance.

Pistons dont just start hitting the valves. Your Timing got changed somehow. You need to read the manual and reset the cam and crank gears. It must of somehow slipped a tooth.
How do you know the piston is hitting the valves? So unlikely for this to happen...
Your probably better off buying a used engine with low miles...piston and valves is gunna cost you 200 bucks, plus all the labor and hassle youre gunna go through.
new motor is probably 600 bucks somewhere and you can just drop it in and call it a day.

Cause the ones I've seen are closer to $1200 on a used motor

I've seen several p model motors with under 2000 miles on em go from 500-800 all depends on how strapped for cash they are and how long they have been holding on to it.

In case you have to go back stock. This place has the pistons and rings listed, but doesnt mean they have them in stock. Best to call. You'll have to go to another part of the parts finch to find the valves. OEM Parts Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R (ZX600-P7F) 2007 CRANKSHAFT/PISTON(S) - Cheap Cycle Parts

You'll have to check bore, stroke, bearing size, and all that stuff.

the 636 pistons could well be different. they did not just bore it out to 636 they also stroked it. as said the p7 is a next gen ground up motor so the pistons could even be bigger then the 636 but with a shorter stroke.
if it was a cam timing problem then more cylinders would be suffering from valve/piston damage.
i think you have a miss treated motor there and probably best to stick a used one in there from a totalled bike.
