Follow up of >>> Garage Door Opener On Lap Button<<<
Alright every since I saw this Ive been wanting to do it and think I am going to do it this week. My buddy still wants to preserve his lap function so was thinking of adding a switch in a little housing that would allow to switch between using the lap button as a garage door opener and then still being able to switch back to the original use of the button
So my question is do any of you with electrical experience (more than me lol) think this switch will work. I have a selection to use from work. But this is one that i found, that I thought would work (this is a link to the part GRS-4012-0026 CW Industries Rocker Switches & Paddle Switches)
Would A go to say the opener and B to the Lap changer and then the middle be common/ground?? just curious thanks
Any help would be greatly appreciated

You need a momentary switch, all your doing is activating the program written in the opener
This would be perfect http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...ductId=2062508 |

Oh ok so I just need a push button switch? have loads of those too
I am new to the electrical world but wouldn't the rocker work the same way basically?

Not really, unless its a momentary rocker. If not you have to switch it on then off, kinda a pain

I guess my biggest thing is I am not sure as how to wire this up correctly depending on what I use. For now just may end up using a connector and when I want to switch it just swap which connector is plugged in.

The lap button is a momentary switch. He wants to use the first switch to switch the lap button from it's stock function to garage door function. Yes it should work. If I wasn't in bed I would draw a diagram for you on how to it needs to be wired. Maybe later. Good idea though.

If you have to add a switch to make the lap button perform a different function, why not just make the added switch a momentary switch for the door opener only? Seems like you're making it more confusing than it needs to be.
