its a big problem as well on honda s2k ap1 cars. cept mishifts cause the retainers to crack slightly. best preventable maintenance is to put heavy duty valves, retainers, springs in. they tend to take abuse much better

There will definitely be port work done. Still waiting to see the pistons and cylinder walls though to see what I'm looking at. Cams are a possibility too, as I'm thinking I can get some money for the old ones... they look to be fine.

So here's the latest....
Unfortunately my mechanic has taken a job that requires him to be out of town during the week and he wasn't able to get to it much in the last couple of weeks.
Preliminary thoughts are:
Possible rod snapped at the upper end of the piston caused the piston to climb up in the cylinder high enough to hit the valve and snap them on the intake stroke.
He's hearing some noise when hit turns the crank by hand. Sounding like a rod up toward the top... not down at the crank. We'll get the head off Sunday and get a closer look.
As of now I'm on the hunt for new pistons and rings and the head. Also going to look for a motor. If I can get a motor to swap out for now this one will be getting a major overhaul. Either way it's getting rebuilt.
We are going to be doing 1 of two things. It's either getting rebuilt with race cams, slimmer head gasket and new pistons and rings, and we'll be smoothing out the ports to increase the airflow. New headers and PC5 are the minimum.
The possibility. He found a 687 kit for it with cams, pistons, rings, all the gaskets, porting specs and full blueprints. HUGE maybe but it'd be pretty cool pulling 3rd gear power wheelies.
I'll get pics and more updates next week. I'm moving this week so I won't be around that much.
Later all!

We gots to see the whole autopsy | I'm moving this week and the bike is at my buddies house about 45 miles from here. I'm moving into a brand new house with a nice BIG garage I'll have my own space in... so I might be getting it back down to the hood so I can start doing much of the work myself. My friend just started a new job that's keeping him away during the week and he's only been able to work on it (providing he's not having Injector issues on his Aprillia) one day a week.
Photos, videos, write ups on the rebuild... it'll be very documented. You know me... I can't NOT take pics and video.
To make matters worse... I got my corner working schedule for the spring... and I can't sign up for any dates yet. |
