if you guys are wondering i am revving it up via throttle body not from throttle tube so the throttle cables are playing no part in this, my air filter is pretty dry but that shouldnt cause these symptoms it would just run a little lean. i really dont know what to check next

Does any one know if the 1995 zx6r has a vacuum valve? or is that just the CA model? here is the part number 16126-1288
#15 in the picture is the vacuum valve

Well i got the vacuum valve and it didnt work actually it made it worse to the point where it went pretty much full throttle when i barley blipped the throttle body. I got it back down to a semi reasonable level and sprayed WD-40 near the carb to head boots. Nothing happened instantly but it did surge a bit and then started to really climb up. Blue flames are pouring out of the exhaust. i look to see if my radiator fan was working because i bought a thermostat and i realized the 2 & 3 headers were glowing red. I dont know what to make of this I'm going to try and swap the carb boots off the other zx6r engine i have and see if that makes a difference then ill give up and take it to a mechanic. any advice is appreciated.

I dont know how but i think i figured it out. i swapped the boots from the J1 motor i had which had great gaskets. i started it up the first time and sounded alright it didnt go crazy like it was before pulled my plugs and saw that the lean ones were getting a little darker and the richer ones were getting lighter so i figured id start her up again and this is how it turned out
I shut it off at the end because i forgot i didnt have a reserve coolant tank

glad you got it back to normal. hope that's the end of your problems.
sucks nobody could help you out, but at least you figured it out yourself.
i wish i had some kind of input, but i know nothing about carb'd motors.

Alright well i thought i had the carb issue figured out but now she doesnt start. At first it would barely start and the idle screw has to be in the right position or it would die if adjusted either up or down. when it does run it lags very badly until 5k rpm after that it sounds amazing.but when the rpms dropped it would stay at 3k for a bit then go down to 1.1k rpms. I adjusted my floats today to 18mm which was in the standard deviation of the manual and now it just wont start (the floats seemed higher before i adjusted them) it starts to puff and would start for a second then die. I would play with the choke to see if it would catch anywhere but didnt work. i sprayed all of the jets and the pathways and i know they are clean. should i adjust my floats the opposite way because maybe there isnt enough fuel getting into the pilot jet? but why is it when i give it any gas from either the idle screw or throttle it would die?

Hi new to this site, I have had similar probs with my G1 zx6r, in the end I emptied out all old fuel and replaced with fresh, cleaned pilot and main jet and bowls and checked float heights, read on other forums regarding mixture screw settings and screwed mine out 3 ½ turns as am running a KN filter and an Art race can then balanced the carbs with vac gauges and it starts revs and runs like it should, before all of the above it would start ok but wouldnt rev and even cut out if you blipped the throttle and while riding at low revs it felt like it was runnung out of fuel, hope this helps

it was the float heights. i for some reason lowered them causing more fuel in the bowl causing the engine to flood and bog which wouldnt let it idle/start. so today i went and adjusted them to 18mm and was noticeably better when starting. it didnt die when i turned the idle screw either way it held an idle at 1,100rpms when i did a quick blip it had some hesitation along with the smell of gas out of the exhaust so ill put the floats up to about 17mm to lean it out more and see how that is. hanging idle is gone which i couldnt believe. so close to finally riding just need to put on some tires.

Im really sorry for bumping this thread but my zx6r runs real rough when it starts up but completely fine when warm. is this typical for older zx6rs? or should i dig further and trouble shoot the carbs again? it will run rough up until the C on the engine temp gauge, like it stumbles and such almost dying when the engine is cold.
