Lost only key, think I saw the fucker who found it looking for my bike

So I get to work today, turn the bike off, then walk literally ten feet to my office door from the parking lot. I sit down at my desk and stay there till i'm about to go to lunch. Can't find my key anywhere I looked for about 3 hours and nothing. I checked the security cameras and I didn't go anywhere until I got up to go to lunch. So the only possibility is I dropped the key during the 10 foot walk.

Later in the afternoon I see this guy acting weird just driving his bicycle in circles across the street from my work for literally about 45 min. Then I see a pickup truck pull along side of him and he talks with the guy and gets in his truck. Then the truck drives across the street and stops near where my bike is parked. I walk outside and they drive away (was not nervous about approaching them as I had my trusty 45 in my waistband)). I then put the bike on a pallet and forklift we have in our warehouse (since I had steering locked) and moved it into the warehouse where it will be safe for the weekend.

Don't know if I being paranoid, but shit seemed way to strange to me. My office is on a small one way street that is only a parking lot for other offices, no through traffic... The guy was just riding in circles looking in the general direction of my bike.

Now I gotta figure out how to get a new key made and watch out for those fuckers....

Fuck a new key. You need to change those locks. That seemed pretty obvious he had your key & didn't know how to ride a motorcycle so he called someone to come pick it up. Did you get the plate number of the truck?

Yea Im going to get a key made in the meantime while I search around and order a new ignition, gas tank lid, and seat lock. Just by bad luck I turn in my leased car Monday morning, so now I'm screwed out of transportation unless I have a locksmith come Monday. I hear the gas tank lock will be a pain. In the meantime and probably for now on I'll continue to park in the warehouse. Just feel like it might get knocked over or something in there.

The only good thing is where I usually park is right in front of office window so I can see the bike no problem. Although I never noticed him pick up my key lol

Just change the ignition and get an aftermarket fuel filler with a screw top. I've never had issues with anyone trying to steal my gas....

That sucks man... good thing you were well aware of this jackass.

Put a tracking device in it and let them take it. You'll find your key wherever you find your bike.

you dodged a serious bullet. You didn't over react at all. you can't find your key and you saw suspicious people and a truck out of the normal. You could have been over thinking but even if so you are/were over thinking with your bike still in your possession. Even with the locks changed they can still two man lift the bike and go. Change the locks, and secure that bike out of sight if you can.

If you see him again, offer a HUGE reward for the key. Don't elaborate on how much.

When he brings it back, give him 5 dollars because I'm sure for a scumbag like him, 5 dollars is a lot of money since he's probably unemployed.

The point to make is that you're asking everyone in the area. Pretend that he's not a suspect. Casually mention that the bike has Lo-Jack and your brother is a local police officer.

"Yeah, I just want to make sure that my bike doesn't get stolen. I'm sure if it does, I'll get it back since it has Lo-Jack tracking on it. I just need to find the key since my brother, a local police officer, wants to buy the bike from me this weekend."

Tell him the area you think you lost it. I'm sure he'll come riding up and say he "found it in some bushes".

Make sure you throw him 5 dollars in pennies.

Great idea on the reward, was trying to figure out how I should approach him if I see him again.

If he's standing around, look around in a very obvious manner in his direction.

Casually walk by him and strike up conversation :

You : Damn, lost my motorcycle key.
Him : That sucks man.
You : Yeah, I already posted on my work bulletin board about a reward if found. I guess no one found it.
Him : Reward?
You : Yeah, just a nice chunk of cash. I already towed my bike home and parked it in the kitchen so it wouldn't get stolen. Same thing happened with my last bike. I dropped my key and someone stole my bike. Luckily, I install Lo-Jack tracking on all my bikes. I'm not taking any chances.
Him : Lo-Jack?
You : Yeah, it tracks the bike. My brother is a police officer here and he got my old bike back and arrested the guys but the insurance company totaled out my bike due to damages to the key and column.

BAM! KEY FOUND!

Did you look outside on the ground REALLY well?

Either way I would be really paranoid too. That really sucks.

Hey bro everybody is a suspect to me bro
Just the other day I walked outside and some guy was one the phone 5 ft away from my bike and he says nice bike. I was paranoid since my friends bike just got stolen a few weeks ago. I wish a MF would try and take my bike while I catch them
