Rattle when throttle is released

Well - kinda just what the title implys. When I release the throttle, just as the RPMS are droppping, there is a odd rattling noise that sounds like its coming from inside the engine. It doesn't happen when the RPMs are climbing, only when dropping - and only when its been rev'd slightly higher (past 6k maybe....didn't look exactly but it seemed to be true)

I'm having it looked at this afternoon but just wondering what you guys think it might be.

Thanks!!!!

I'm with Hulk and PG. Very likely it's the Cam Chain Tensioner.

The cam chain is gonna rattle a lot more when the engine is cold.
As your warming the bike, rev it a bit & listen for it on the right side of the motor.

How many miles on the bike? & have you ever had the valves done??

Cam tensioner? What's that? .. Cam chain? What's that?.... Jk. :)
I have 16k on mine and haven't had this problem... Maybe lena needs to ease off the throttle. :). I'm just kidding... :D

I think so, But don't quote me on that.
How about it guys? ET? Cant she just cut the cat out?
If she can find someone to do it???? Highly illegal in this state.

lena, when you say "cat" do you mean the premuffler chamber/boombox thing between the headers and exhaust can? or do you mean the catalytic converter inside the headers.

#18 ·
^ I thought that was the converter?????

on the 09+, the box is just another part of the emissions. the actual "cat" is a pair of metal honeycombs just inside the headers(not the 4 pipes, but where they all converge into one big pipe). when you take the exhaust can off, you will be seeing the premuffler chamber(unless removed by exhaust like TwoBros etc). then if you take off that premuffler chamber, you will have the open end of the headers. if you look in the headers, you will see honeycomb.

i drilled and busted the honeycomb out of mine and removed the premuffler chamber with my two bros exhaust so now i have essentially a full exhaust system for half the price.

Gotcha, which ever, She can live without, Right?

yup. i say get 'em both outta there. for the boombox, she'll need a midpipe. for the honeycombs, she'll need a long drill, a chisel, patience, and determination. and a ShopVac.

Bring it & your sexy bottom down to the dragon & someone will fix your bike.
I, meanwhile will fix whatever ails you.

ahahahahaha....seriously!!! Pumpkin Ass?!?!?! :rotfl DYING!

Good news though - I'm going to pick my bike up right after work. I need to take a look at it though and see what he actually did because, honestly, I'm still not exactly clear. He said first he tried replacing the "cat" with one from another bike he had but that it was still making the noise. So then he cleaned it all out and said its running/sounding great. I asked if, because he "cleaned it out", I needed some type of fuel regulation now (thinking he's referring to gutting the headers) and he said nope that I was gtg....I'm thinking he's gotta be talking about cleaning out the pre-chamber and not the internal honey-comb right?

Ok, so running and sounding pretty nice but now I'm noticing quite a bit of backfiring. Bad??
ask exactly what he did. if i were you, i'd replace the boombox with a midpipe. and i'd gut the headers. all very easy. do it.

Does it on deceleration, at high rpm's.????
Or all the time???? All the time, Not good. On deceleration typical.
