Clutch cable replace?

The clutch cable has started to fray a little, where it connects to the lever. Do you think it needs replacing now?

Does not look like a hard job, any advice? I notice if I do not have the correct tension, the bike will not start in gear or have trouble starting. Do I need to adjust the nuts down by the clutch for ideal tension?

yes, must replace... my clutch cable looked like that and the day i replaced it, it finally snapped... also very easy to replace... remove the mid fairing and you'll see what you have to do... after replacing buy the cable lube and the tool as well

you can do it without moving any fairings... just loosen the right side mid fairing, and snake the new cable the same way the current cable is... super easy fix.

Should be pre lubed I believe but I always do it anyway to my cables for good measure

No you have to lube it yourself. Buy the 10 or so dollar tool and spray it in till you see lube come out the other end.

Happened to me a couple months ago. Didn't wait to find out how much longer it would last, replaced it that day.

Can I use chain lube or a any lubricating oil? Or do I have to buy something special. Will the cable last longer if its lubed? Can understand lubing a chain, but never heard of lubing a clutch cable...

If you don't replace you will regret when it snaps and your not at home

Happened once and in a bind I used a standard by cycle cable as it was a long way from home was a part in the arse but I managed to limp it home

Get a lube that is safe for cables (Wal-Mart or an Auto-Zone like store will have it). All it does is reduce the friction between the cable and tube that it is in. Will last MUCH longer. If you dont, it'll take about 2 months till your buying a new one.

Mine did this not even a month ago, it never snapped (thankfully), because I rode around on it for about 2 weeks while waiting on a cable to ship to me from amazon. I just took it to a shop since I didn't have any tools and was having my chain/sprocket replaced as well, it was a 1/2 hour billed labor.

All done, easy job. Just waiting for my lube tool to come. Been told to use any lubricating oil, even wd40.
