Rear shock replacement

I want to replace the rear shock on my 2003 zx6r. The shock is all corroded and does't look very good. I bought the bike used in September of 2015 and the bike has almost 20,000 miles on it now. I read in some other threads that most practical and cost saving set up would be to switch out my 03 shock with an 09-12 shock. I realize that I will need the linkage as well. I have two questions though:
- If I order an 09-12 rear shock and linkage with dog bone off eBay is there anything else that I will need to complete the switch, or will it just bolt right up like the 03 shock and linkage that I will be removing?
- Will the 09-12 rear shock and linkage change the seating height of the bike or anything of that nature?
The bike is laid up for winter so I plan on picking at it piece by piece. Any info is much appreciated. Thanks.
