1999 zx6r won't start after being stood

First - apologies for my first post being a question, rather than a contribution.

Bought a ninja 600 which has been laid up for 2 years. Before being put away she ran fine, and in fact passed her MOT test without a single advisory.

I can't get the damn thing started. Fully charged battery, pull in clutch, in neutral, engine turns strongly, sounds like it's about to "catch" but then doesn't.

Repeat this a few times with 3-5 seconds of starter at a time and every time I let go of the starter switch I hear a glugging or small gushing sound and fuel comes out from under the tank/carbs and drips down on the floor.

Thinking it may be the carbs floats I began disassembly to remove the carbs to try and fix. In doing so I discovered that a fucking mouse had chewed HTC lead 2 clean off. Could this be causing my starting issues, or is this an additional sodding bastard problem to the potential stuck floats?

Also, there are a pair of yellow wires which run up past the fuse box (and clip to the plastic).. these have been chewed through too. What are they and will they affect the starting of the bike?

Any help is appreciated.

I will not stop until the mouse that did this is brought to justice.

Hello and welcome!

I would recommend reconnecting all the chewed wires, then try to start it again and see what happens. If it still has issues, proceed with the carb checks/cleaning.

Repair the wires, and inspect the airbox. Also the exhaust..... critters love nooks and crannies.

lol was it danger mouse ,sounds like he fucked your bike for you nicely lil bastards ,,thats not going to help the starting up thats for sure ,might be worth running some fresh fuel in,can you see where fuel is coming from ,but watch your spark as it my go kaboom with the fuel every where ,i would isolate that lead and then see how you get on ,maybe a gentle tap on float bowls as he may be a bit suck from being parked up,

Old bike.. been sitting.

Carbs are definitely going to need a cleaning.
Check the airbox and exhaust as mentioned
get some fresh gas and check that the check the plugs are good to go

Let her rip.

Any one know what this pair of yellow wires are for?

Bastard cunt mouse has chewed them up so much I can't see what they connected to. They run up to the rear of the bike past the fuse box.

Appreciate that mate. Got her MOT'd today - all good apart from idling like shit. (Not idling without choke). Any ideas before I swap the carbs out for some others I bought? Lol

I swapped the carbs out tidy. Took a total of 2 hours, start to finish which I was pleased with. It runs like an absolutely dream now. I plan on selling the old ones as spares (in need of a good clean). Thanks for your help.
