The overflow says full. It's 50 and cool out today. I'm not sure if she ever had it flushed recently either. Once I got moving at about 25 to 30 mph it cooled down to 150f to 160f. If I let it sit at idle for 20 to 30 minutes it will shut off. The fan is working too I made sure to check that.

I'm worried that a hot day in the summer though will strand me at a red light somewhere.

I live in WV. Temps here are in the 50s and 60s lately.

It shouldn't get that hot. 230ish is about as high as you should ever see it even on a very hot summer day in slow traffic.

Confirm the fan kicks on.
If it does, and your DON'T have air in the system it's time for a T-stat.

Also put a pencil mark on the overflow tank while cold.
Note level when hot. If it hasn't gone up the radiator cap could be stuck.

Air in system, fan or T-stat will cause overheating.

How hard is it to replace the Tstat? The level rises once the bike warms up so I assume the cap is fine. Location? Will I have to pull the tank or fairings or is it visible through the bars or bottom?

Not positive on the Ninja. Just about all are at the main hose to the engine on the left side.
Try and burb the cooling system first.

I will try burping it tomorrow and let you know if it helps. If not I'll order a new T- stat.
