Oil Light on, Won't do anything

Was riding my 2003 zx6r b1 model bike when I went from 3rd to 2nd gear and then it stopped. Got it to start but wouldn't go past 1st gear without it shutting off. Parked it and turned it off, went to start it and oil pressure light came on and won't start or do anything now. Checked the kill switch, kickstand switch, and all the other switches. Nothing. Can't get the oil filter off just yet to burp it. On way too tight. Starter won't even turn over. What could be causing this? I just bought it from someone about 3 days ago and ran fine until today. Oil is not low either. Checked that. Am I screwed??

If the motor is not running, you will have the oil light.... that part is typical behavior.

Will the engine turn over with the starter?

Always fill the oil filter with oil until it soaks it all up and fills up to the top, helps avoid the worry of air in the system

Yeah, I researched more after posting to find the light is normal. Sorry about that needless info. Anyhow, it will not turn over period. Narrowed it down to either the starter, starter relay, or a worse case scenario of other seized parts. Found an article explaining how to check and see if certain parts are seized. Going to try that tomorrow. Don't think it's the oil though. I didn't change it after I bought it and it's been running fine for the past few days. But going to burp it anyhow. Just worried I seized something when it downshifted and was hot (about 230f) when it shut off though it came right back on it wouldnt go past 1st without shutting off. Parked it, turned on and off once more and it turned on done so I went inside. Came back out about 15mins later and wouldn't do a thing. Wheels turn in neutral but not sure about in top gear. Checking that tomorrow. Had to leave bike where it was at friend's house, so can't check anything tonight.

Sounds like the problem is problem started when you downshifted while you were riding, so I doubt it's anything electrical, or anything to do with oil. Something probably happened during that shift. Did it make any odd noises, like metal parts grinding on each other?

Nope no odd noises at all the bike just shut off. Pure quiet. I rolled in gear then pulled the clutch and coasted into a parking lot. Once there I put it in neutral and it acted like it was hesitating starting up again. (Rough/low idle). Then it smoothed out after a second or two. I shifted into first took off and as soon as I tried shifting to second the same thing happened again. Shut off no loud or weird noises. This time while I was rolling I managed to pull the clutch and restart the bike after putting it into 1st. Never tried 2nd again after that. I parked it shut it off and restarted it after a minute and it started fine. Then I went inside for 15 minutes and came back out to start it again and it wouldn't do anything. Zero response from my starter. No clicking. Nothing. All the lights and fuel pump are working. Where is the kickstand sensor located? My kickstand is pretty loose. The spring needs replaced I'd say. How would I test it with a multimeter? Maybe clutch sensor too?

I bet the problem is your kickstand sensor. Its located on your kickstand

I see a wire but the lady I got it off of has crap rerouted everywhere. It's like a Frankenstein bike with the bkmotos, pc3, and other stuff. I tried wiggling it and putting it up and down but still nothing. I'm hoping it's something that simple. The kickstand is loose and can move about any direction when dropping it. Is it something that can be tested? Or should I buy a new stand with a sensor and hope for the best?

I'm assuming the top of the stand is also the sensor? If I unplug it would the bike possibly start? How can I test that it would be the stand causing the problem?

So what's circled is the actual switch, when you place your kickstand up, that will rise with the stand and click. The arrow is the entire mechanism assembly. What you can do is unscrew the little screw holding that positioner in place and "override" the kick stand sensor and see if that helps.

First: Tighten down your kickstand.

Two wires plug into the sensor. Connect those wires together and the bike will think the kickstand is always up.

Yeah based on that description now, the kickstand sensor would be my first suspect. Although it should start when in neutral regarding of which position the sensor is in, so that's a bit troubling. That sensor just prevents you from starting the bike in gear if it senses the stand is down. Or it kills the engine if it's already running and then you shift into gear with the stand down.

That was it! Thanks guys. I just connected the wires together and she started right up and ran great. Shifted through every gear without an issue. I did have it parked and running and it shut off at 250f temps. Is that the overheat zone? Wouldnt start until she cooled down. I've never had a bike with cooling issues so I'm not sure what the limits are.

Yeah these will flash a temp warning at 240 or 245 and shut off at about 250 I believe.

It shouldn't be running just sitting idling, but it shouldn't get that hot, either. Is it really hot where you live?

Might check your coolant, see if there's any air in the system.
