Bogging issues

So to start off my bike sat for supposedly 4 years before I bought it. Wasn't running right so a buddy and I took the air box off to find a rats nest and a bunch of little seeds in not only the air box but on top of the butterfly's as well. One of the butterfly's was gunned shut but we managed to get it fixed up and running okay. But when I took it on a closed highway in Mexico I was able to hit 135 and then it started cutting out so I let off. Then just recently I was on the same highway in Mexico and hit 90 only. If a gust of wind hits me it seems to bog my motor more then wind should. It is a street fighter and I'm wondering if I'm getting to much air and not enough fuel. I haven't opened the carbs or cleaned them because I'm scared shit will fly out. Do you think a carb rebuild would solve this? The windier it is the slower I can go. And it's not the Rpms either. I can redline in first and second but one I get my top speed too high it cuts.

What do u mean by cutting out? The engine would shut off?

Have the sprockets been changed?

You need to clean the carbs if it sat for 4 years.

its a 2002. and like by cutting out its just like losing power. And now its started to flood. I believe the float is stuck in the third culider. It locked the starter so i pulled the plugs and turned it over, gas flew everywhere. but i was able to get it started after that. the idle was high so i adjusted it lower, and then rev it after and let it return to "idle" but it would raise again, so i lowered again, and rev, then it would rise again. I need help lol

Bikes in that timeframe had some complicated vacuum lines between the carbs and airbox.... I'd expect that to be part of the problem, but the carbs will be the bigger issue.

Rebuild them. It sounds like the float is shot on at least one carb as well.... they need a lot of help.

"Basic stuff fellas. Use your head for something other than to break your next fall."

"There's this adage that we have 2 ears and one mouth so we should listen twice as much as we talk. Unfortunately with the Internet people have taken this old adage and turned it around. They have two eyes and 10 fingers so they think they need to post 5 times as much as they read. And since they have 10 fingers and one brain, they only have to think 10% of the time! "

Sounds like you have it figured out.. Yes stuck floats..
Complete soak in ultrasonic or buy a set of carbs off a bike wrecked that was just running.

Confirm the floats are not gas logged when you pull them.

I disassembled and soaked mine in a gallon can of carb cleaner for 24 hours. Seems like that did the trick. Just thought I'd mention it if you don't have a ultrasonic.

And like Indy said, make sure the floats aren't full of gas.

i pulled the bowls off and removed everything. Blew out jets and all that. took bowls out and they seemed fine. Its only when i get a gust of air hit me is when the bike loses power. Almost as if its going to shut off. Do you think syncing the carbs could fix it?
