Oil Leak

I noticed after a couple hr ride the other day I had some oil under the motor collecting in my bottom fairing and mixing with some dust from my ride.. I couldn't see a direct spot where it could be leaking so I thought maybe it was just some coolant i didn't clean up from me flushing the bike and mixing with Rome road dust.. Well I was wrong, when I pulled into the carwash today to give her a bath I instantly looked to see if any thing had leaked more and I literally watch a drop form at the bottom of my viewing window and drip into the bottom fairing!! It might drip 8-10 drops on a 2 hr ride but what would cause this to happen and how f'kd am I?? 300 miles on a fresh mobil 1 oil change.. 06 ZX6R, 13,500 miles.. Only leaks after a decent ride, not while sitting!!

Look at the exploded parts diagram..

Would guess either the o-ring has died or it's a the window is loose..

The long ride heat's it up, that expands the metal.
Using a set of pliers with tape on the ends see it it rotates CW. Don't squeeze to tight could cause deformation of the ring, worst case brake the glass.

Yes, positive.. I wiped the oil away around the entire window and it slowly formed a small amount back at the very bottom of the window.. Indy what do you mean exploded parts diagram? Are you saying that the window turns out and there is a replaceable O-Ring?

Wipe all the oil off. Spray it down with some contact cleaner to get it all out. Apply some hi temp RTV silicone all around the edge of the window and wipe off the rest and let it dry for 24 hours. That should stop the leak.

That's what I was thinking about doing, lol.. If its possible to change a seal or o-ring I'd do that first but the hi temp silicone seems like a quick and safe fix.. If its not replaceable or fixable that's definitely what I'll be doing.

You can see the ring outside the glass... that screws onto the case like a jar lid.

Someone suggested tightening that up, and if it doesn't seal taking it off and replacing the seal.

A much better idea than blobbing on a bunch of goo.

It's nearly impossible to get a good seal on an oily surface. You won't get all the oil removed. That will lift off the goop, eventually.

Do it right. If Kawasaki could have used RTV, they would have.
Indy likes this.

"There's this adage that we have 2 ears and one mouth so we should listen twice as much as we talk. Unfortunately with the Internet people have taken this old adage and turned it around. They have two eyes and 10 fingers so they think they need to post 5 times as much as they read. And since they have 10 fingers and one brain, they only have to think 10% of the time! "

pizluke, take the time. Fill out your profile.
Went to it the bike information is lacking.

SO I went and looked for mine. Darned if I could find it.
Thought I had it, but when I saw the picture. Nope.

If it's loose, should come off fairly easy. Get a oil pan and see if it rotates CCW.
If it does a dealer or maybe someone else could find it.
Possibly it's not replaceable and pressed on to the lower case. That would suck in this case.

OK, I'm gonna try tightening it up first, I've tried searching for that part or a seal or an o-ring but nothing comes up which makes me wonder if its replaceable but I would think a kawi dealer could help..I hate to be going down the rd and have it come out and blow up the bike.. Also Indy, I see everyone else's profiles have lots more info and I couldn't figure out how to add anything to mine.. I wanted to add more info but wasn't having any luck? Thanks for the help fellas...
