LOL, the 65,000+ miles on my bike says different. Same thing with my cars/trucks and many hundreds of thousands of miles. Hand tight is plenty (and you can check it after the first ride or two to make sure it's still tight if your are worried about it).

I've changed every oil filter on every bike - both road and track - that I've ever owned/co-owned/ridden. I should have bloody shares in Silkolene and K&N. Never - not even once - have I had oil escape from around a filter. Not once have I ever had a filter come loose. Not once have I put one on more than hand tight. The track bikes may have had them lockwired, but innumerable road miles later... Anyway. It doesn't matter. It's your bike, and you can put on the filter how ever you choose.

But, please, if you're selling it on, loosen it to a sensible level before its ridden away!

... hand tight would be just fine, thank you.

The best advice I ever received was "Just look pretty and try not to break anything."

1999 ZX6R (G2) - Pipewerx exhaust (dB killer removed) | Dynojet Stage 1 | K&N air filter | flushmount front LED indicators | Clear LED tail light with integrated indicators | Scottoiler eSystem | Pyramid Plastics hugger | HID headlight | Stubby levers | HEL braided steel lines | 07 ZX6R radial master cylinder | Bar-end mirrors | Double-bubble screen | Crash bobbins | one hell of an anal-retentive owner.

To fuel the debate a little....

I hand tight and then bump it a little with a filter wrench.

To be fair, I have accepted that I have bitch hands and have to compensate with tools.
