Without extra details, this could be hard to answer.

Just a couple of possibilities include:

1. He hasn't connected the plug correctly when he changed over the ignition barrel (you'll need a new fuel cap lock too!).
2. He's used a crap unit from eBay that's fried something.
3. He's damaged or disconnected something when rigging things up.

- When you turn the key, do the clocks light up/headlights and indicators work?
- Does the engine try to turn over, but you're just not getting a spark?
- Are the fuses all okay?
- Has the ignition or engine stop switch shorted?
- Has some of the wiring shorted?
- Is it definitely in neutral?
- Is the starter locked out?
- Has the sidestand switch shorted?

The more info you can give us, the quicker we'll be able to help.

It's probably best to put as much of the original items in place as you can, and work methodically from the ignition barrel on back.

Welcome to the forum!

If it worked, and you replaced the ignition, and it won't work, I doubt the problem is CDI or pulsing coil. More likely the ignition, no?

Does your ignition wiring show continuity when you have the key in the on position?

Like I said, put the original kit back on (obviously, not the ignition barrel). If you put new items in, you're just adding more potential failure points before you find the cause.

Disconnect the ignition barrel and check that the connection is 100% correctly fitted. Check the wiring back from that point and make sure there's been nothing stretched or frayed.

Ask him if he got that ignition barrel new or second hand. Has he been able to start and run the bike at all since the barrel was replaced?

No it hasn't ran at all. I'm thinking of just buying a new ignition because before he lost the key it ran fine

That sounds like a plan to me.

When it comes to parts, getting just any old crap off of eBay tends to be a bad idea. OE costs more, but at least you know it'll work (and you can easily return it/get a refund if it doesn't).
