Take a walk through your local auto parts stores and find a design you like.
The one I have had for at least 10 years, isn't quite like the one you have been using. The hole in the side that the oil goes through to be captured is at least 8" across, with a fairly wide plastic mesh over it to stop drain bolts, etc. That has a screw on lid to you can carry it like a typical drain pan/jug..... mine is so old, the cap for the smaller hole on the side that you would pour off the old oil into the jug at the waste station has split almost all the way around.
I keep it as close to empty as possible, and have a 5 gallon pail that I collect all of my used oil into. Bought that at a full service hardware store, with a snap on lid. Usually takes me a year or more to fill that.

"There's this adage that we have 2 ears and one mouth so we should listen twice as much as we talk. Unfortunately with the Internet people have taken this old adage and turned it around. They have two eyes and 10 fingers so they think they need to post 5 times as much as they read. And since they have 10 fingers and one brain, they only have to think 10% of the time! "
