So I crashed recently and now the right side of my tank is dented. I want to repaint it to prevent corrosion and thought that I might as well fill up the dent.
Question is, do you trust yourself to fill it in really well to where you'll barely be able to tell it's there? I also doubt you'll be able to get the same finish when you paint over it as you'll get on the tank, and personally that would drive me crazy lol
If they're side dents like commonly seen on zx6r and r6 tanks, I just hid mine with R&G tank sliders ...can barely tell that it was dented.
They use a glue gun (the glue removes easily) and then you stick the plunger in the kit to the dent, fit the cross member, turn the screw and pop out the dent.
Even if it doesn't pop all the way out you wont need as much filler and it will look alot better.
Make sure to sit the tank out in the sun to get it warm makes the metal easier to pull.
Looks like you can go into the top of the fill hole with a tool to knock it out some. Even if you have to make a basic tool to do it. Knock it out a bit further than needed and then slowly, carefully tap it back in to desired shape, sand and fill.
I'm going to remove the fuel pump tomorrow and hopefully there will be some room to knock that dent out a little. Then I'll keep using a glue tool to get the dent out.
I have repaired in few tanks and you can definitely tell the area has been repaired.. the best is to use a bog that is for car applications and good paint that would cover the bondo
So I gave the Harbor Freight Crossbar Dent Repair Kit a try. It "works" but takes a very long time. You have to apply the glue and allow to dry, which takes about 10 minutes per try. Too slow of a process. I'm considering using some weak epoxy instead of the glue gun to have more grip and reduce the pull time. The glue gun is only to avoid removing point which is not a concern for my anymore.
Worked on it with the dent remover for 4 hours while doing other activities. Takes a total of about 10-15 minutes per pull. So far I've pulled out about half of the dent.
Haha nice! That is perfection. ?
I was gonna mention looking for a good used one in the $350-400 range, but those deals don't seem to come around when you need them to. I don't even want to know what you paid for that one lol [emoji33]
