extremely surprised how many people said no...
The reason they make it a law is so the government does have to pay for our brain surgery when we go down without a helment on.
its retarded that people are allowed to not wear helments in florida. AND Just so everyone knows, I dont give the friendly biker wave to bikers without helments. Fuck em!

Friend of mine would be alive today if she was wearing one. In wisconsin you need one if you have your temps. If you have your full liscence then you dont need a lid. Only seeing my skull on a bike once in a blue moon.

I dont know if this has been posted already on this thread but I remember this from my MSF course in clearwater fl.
Section 1. Subsection (3) of section 316.211, Florida Statutes, is amended to read:
(b) Notwithstanding subsection (l), a person over 21 years of age may operate or ride upon a motorcycle without wearing protective headgear securely fastened upon his or her head if such person is covered by an insurance policy providing for at least $10,000 in medical benefits for injuries incurred as a result of a crash while operating or
riding on a motorcycle.
to me that means that bikers do have to wear helmets in the state of florida if they do not have 10000 in medical coverage of bike insurance. And I know that there are a lot of uninsured bikers riding without helmets. the current law i believe is that in florida we do not need to get motorcycle insurance, but thats about it. hope this helps you with your research.

In Russia law says you must wear a helmet. A fine of 500 rubles, or $ 17.

I live in Ohio where we have no helmet law except with riders with a temps license! I always wear my helmet, to each his own! I went down last season and luckily was wearing my helmet and gloves but no jacket! I wouldn't have knuckles on my left hand if I hadn't had my gloves on, my shoulder on the other hand paid the price!!

I would personally say YES to wearing LIDS... The more people die because not wearing helmet or not having it on propertly, the more our insurance goes up because they have to pay others to get their skulls pached up....
Then again, some people shouldnt have a need to wear one because there is nothing to protect there anyway... Those are usually the ones that are without one...
SO my conclusion - No helmet law, people who want to protect their head, will wear one anyway, just as i suit up full two piece every time i ride... Regardless if is a trip to starbucks or 300 mile trip. I went down, hit a curb and stopped from 35mph to 0 in one foot, with bike on top of me and my friend thinking that i was dead... i got the bike off me and got up without any pain in my body... Dianese suit with titanium inserts was worth every penny and that my friends is the reason i say the law for helmets should not exist.
If you care about your health, and love riding, you will do anything you can possibly do to protect yourself.

I voted yes.
My head is pretty thick and solid but I don't think it can crack concrete or smash guardrails outta my way so i play it safe
Seriously, why risk an avoidable head injury or even death when it can be so easily avoided or minimized.

Okay guys, I will admit. I voted no on this, but have changed my mind!
I said it would be okay sometime to not wear one on something like a short trip around town as long as youre not going too fast etc. My answer now is you should always were your helmet.
Here's why I changed my mind. My cousin was riding his R-6 on some twisty back roads in East TN yesterday. He was wearing his gear; most importantly, his Icon Alliance Helmet. As he was riding these roads, he was going into a blind turn and hit a washout, and was able to correct it, but had to either ditch it or stop in some peoples yard. Well on one side of the street was a cliff and the other was a yard. easy choice...
When he left the road, He hit a drainage ditch and was slammed down into the tank and then thrown over the handlebars face first through his wind screen and his upper where the mirrors are. Once off the bike he slid across the grass and also hit head first into a tree stump.
He walked away...
Once at the hospital, they said his helmet saved his ass. He received only 28stitches in his face with several stitches underneath because the gashes in his face were so deep. It also severed a muscle in his face. He has a lot of bumps and bruises, but is alive thanks to his helmet.
YES, you should wear a helmet! |
