Would like some opinions. I feel to torn.

There have been a few threads about guys saying their GF's and wives are thinking about getting on 2 wheels.

My girl is thinking about a bike as well. She wants to get legit MPG and she also wants to ride with me. I told her I would buy her a bike to learn on, which will be an old 250 of course. She asked what I thought...

1. 50% of me would absolutely love to be able to ride around with her.
2. 50% of me would be completely scared/worried about her.

Now, before you jump to an assumption, let me explain my thoughts.

1. I would love nothing more than to go on rides with her. She really enjoys bike rides and feel of being on 2 wheels, but being the passenger is hard on her back due to the seating position. So she wants a 2008+ Ninja 250 at some point.

2. I wouldn't necessarily be worried about her riding ability, for the most part, maybe 20% worried. I mean we all get better with time. The other 80% of worry in my mind I would be her ability to react to situations on the rode. I.E. someone pulls out in front of her or she takes a turn a bit to fast, and so on.

Not to sound like a love sick puppy, but if something happened to her, it would be hard for me to not feel like I put her in the situation and I would be devistated. We are very serious about our relationship/future (marriage, house, kids, etc.) People always say don't think about the worst case scenario but its hard to just ignore those thoughts.

If she does want to do this in the spring, I will be gearing her up of course and doing my best to teach her everything I can.

Maybe some of the girls could chime in on this.

So guys and gals, should I get her a bike and show her the way of the Ninja (sorry, had to) or not.

Even though you state that you are very serious about your future. I really think it's ultimately her decision. If she wants to become a rider than that's her choice. It would be natural to worry, but we were all new riders at some point.

That's very true, I guess I wouldn't want to discourage her from riding but at the same time I wouldn't want to push her to try it and have something happen.

If she wants to become a rider that to me says that she's trying to be a part of something that's important in your life which seems to be another part of being serious about a future

I agree with this. Shes probably as worried about you as you would be of her. Now if shes just straight up clumsy, thats an entirely different story.

If i were young & in-love, I might like to have her ride with me?
But your right, I would worry for her safety. I might have to insist she only ride it when I'm along.
No guarantee, But I think i could minimize the danger somewhat.

But her out on her own, someone you love & new to the dangers of being on a bike?
No way.

I'll let you guys in on something, I honestly feel that if I continue to ride(& I am)
The day will come when I'm back in the hospital, Or worse.
Its just a thing Iv come to except. .....Hell, I can think of much worse ways to go.

oldninjadude - You have some good points. And I was sort of thinking the same thing. Maybe only let her ride with me until she is comfortable and once I see how she handles the road and what not, it may put to rest some of my worry as well.

I voiced my thoughts to a couple of my riding buddies, they said they would have no problem helping out as well.

"even though riding is completely her decision and in the end you should respect her decision, but at least you can influence her to make the decision not to ride."
yeah man i wouldn't recommend riding to anyone i love(family or girlfriend), i am a hypocrit and riding can be a very dangerous sport and i understand the consequences,so if i can't save myself from this sickness at least i can save others

Danger and death are at every turn in life. The reaper awaits us all. There is no sense in drawing another breath if you fear what is around the next corner in the adventure we call life. If she wants to ride, just give her the knowledge she needs to make the right decision for herself. My advice is to start with a BRC by the MSF. It is cheap and only takes a weekend. Hell, take it with her because you might learn something too. (I take it every couple years for the insurance discount ) That way, she can get a good foundation on skills and gave a good idea of weather it might be for her or not.

meh, Personally I would not want M'lady to ride, mainly because I know how dangerous it is out there.. Not only riding the bike, but the stupid fucking idiots driving the cages.. Of course it would be her decision, but I would try my hardest to talk her out of it..

If she DID insist, I would do as someone above mentioned, and ask that for the first bit she only ride with me, and we take it really nice and easy...that and get her FULL equipment and she wears it ALL the time lol

Just my .02
