Is my 04 636 worth fixing?
I bought an 04 636 for 700 dollars,it is in rough shape but not horrible shape the frame is scratched and a little dented, second gear pops out at around 10,000 rpms (That I think could be one of two things, either shift forks or dogs, hopefully shift forks lol) needs new rearsets, and the turn signals don't work due to wiring problem(i found an online manual so the wiring wouldn't cost much, just some time to get the wiring correct)It also has an R title.the motor runs great and starts up great. oh it needs a mid pipe and exhaust also.I figured a running 04 636 for seven hundred i couldn't pass that up. even if i part it out i can easily make my money back but my question is, is the bike worth putting maybe 1000 dollars into and making it into a decent bike or should i just sell it now or part it out?

If you want the project and have the cash go for it. If nothing less part it out. Like you said a workin 636 motor is a win

I figure if i can get it pretty nice for a total of 1700 give or take that's a pretty good deal considering these bikes in mint go for like 3000 and up.and i really like the 03 04 versions.

honestly, it really depends how mechanically inclined you are. if you have the experience in wiring and tearing down engines, then build that sucker up!
i think you have a great platform to build a nice track machine.
the transmission should be pretty simple to fix. if worse comes to worse, buy a cheap replacement off ebay/CL from a wrecked bike or from somebody parting out. you have a few options bc some parts are transferrable from 03/04 - 05/06.
same for the exhaust and rearsets. simple fix. buy a nice aftermarket slip on and get an OEM mid pipe, or go full aftermarket system.
buy some OEM rear sets from ebay/CL or get some nice aftermarket ones (vortex, woodcraft, etc).
3 things make me weary, though.
1. the electrical problem (turn signal)
2. the damaged frame
3. the rebuilt title
you say that you can just re-wire the turn signal, but how do you know it's just the turn signal wiring that's damaged? could be caused from something else. does everything else electrical work fine?
the frame needs to be replaced. i would not risk riding with a damaged frame.
also, if you replace the frame, make sure you get a clean title for it.
honestly, you're looking at roughly $1200 - $2500 (just an estimation. exhaust, depends on whether you stick to OEM or go aftermarket, = ~$200 - $1000; transmission, i'd say you can find one for ~$100 - $200 off CL; rearsets, depends on OEM or aftermarket, = ~$100 - $400; frame = ~$500 - $1000; plus shipping for everything)
just my .02

Well the turn signals work but the bulbs burn out because the guy before me put after market turn signals on it and didn't wire them back up correctly and all the other electrical works fine..I would go as cheap as possible while still going with good quality parts..If i replaced the frame with a frame with a clean title would it still be considered an R title?

if you replace the frame and get a clean title (might depend on your area? idk), you can register the bike using the new VIN/title.

people sell damaged frames bc some buyers don't realize that there may be potential danger. the seller just wants the money. i, personally, would never sell a damaged frame to anyone, unless they're making a table or lamp out of it lol.

I would keep it. Wouldnt try to fix the frame due to speed issues and it bending in due time. But i would find a frame for it and rebuild. Honestly you can find alot of good working parts off of ebay most parts that im using (OEM) have came from ebay. mainly deal with 3 companys on there and one of them is a M/C salvage place and the parts usually come to me within 3days or less. Go on ebay and look for Simpson Cycles they usually have great used parts that work like a charm for rebuilds.
