Basically im looking at buying a ZX6R for turning into a track bike, ive seen a few already but im unsure which to buy. i bought my 2010 ZX6R to use has a road/track bike but now ive fitted lots of goodies and spent a small fortune im not happy about taking it to the track in case i bend it, so would you go for;

90's ZX6 - cheap to buy but more than likely high milage and poor reliability due to milage

2000 ZX6 - bit more expensive to buy still has conventional forks

2002 ZX636 as above

2003-2005 ZX636R awsome power light and nimble, upside down forks, but they hold there money so the newer bike isnt out of reach

2005-2006 seems like a bargain as can be bought for same money as the older bike but the engine power is alittle down on the older bike

2007 - 2008 still quite expensive for just hooning around the track on

2009- the best yet for power and handling, showa BP forks and alot of money if its bent beyond repair

would the cheapest option be the best for track days or should i stop being tight and buy a newer bike, what do you guys think?

isn't the 2000 a 599 and not a 636?

Yea the 636 didn't come out till 03 but I'd go with an 03-06 636.

well yeah but i meant the style of bike i they run that shape for a while with a couple of tweaks to the fairing

in ninjas ive only tried a 2001 ,2004 and a 2010 on a track and i was faster on the 2004

in 2002 the j series.... i think was upgraded slightly buy having the 636 engine and called it A1P
but dont hold me on that .....
and there is nothing wrong with the conventional forks ......i like them

Thats interesting mark, its assumed the newest bike with the newest technology would be quickest round the track goes to show they dont really make huge advances with the newer bikes

Yeah, the 2002 ZX-6R was the first of the 636 series...

Yes the I had a A1P 636 2002 but you can get 599 2002.
I have got to admit i have a fully sorted track bike... its a CBR600RR 03 As i could not afford a newer ZX6R had a budget of £2000 and got the CBR for £2250.

Not true at all....emissions plays a large portion into this statement...thats why the03-04 zx6r has more power out the door than the 05-06(in the US only)

only difference ins the 03-06 are fuel injected with of course minor tweeks while the 2002 zx6r is carbureted.

the 05 has more power than the 04 here in the uk, get one sent over

not just the us models mate, when Kawasaki went back to a 599cc engine they got it wrong the 03-04 bikes produced around 114bhp the newer 599cc bike fell way short with just under 110bhp
