Finally got the 636 running right again

Good day riders, I'm currently laid up having had 11, yup 11 Teeth extracted yesterday, So I figured I'd share my good news about my bike.

She has been running like shit since about July, Through a search of the internet and some help from everyone on here I determined that it was my ECU on my 05 636. The bike would run well for 30-45 minutes, and then buck and die. I didn't have the money for a new ECU at the time so I've been putting up with her like that for 4 months.

I finally got the funds to replace the ECU. I got a used one out of a part out 636 on Ebay for $76 shipped, I swaped it out Sunday, did the jumper mod, cleaned the air filter and switched the girl over to full synthetic oil too! When I took her out for a ride all I could think was "Wow!" I didn't realize how bad she was running until I got her all fixed up. Can anyone recommend a good heat shield to put under the ECU so it doesn't get cooked next year? or should I wrap the exhaust?

I also took a look at the chain and sprockets while she was apart, The sprockets are in good shape, but I will be needing a new chain. Any recommendations? Do I really need an xring chain if all I'm doing is some occasional twistie carving? or should I save the money for other upgrades?

Also thinking of upgrading to an HID kit this winter. Any Recommendations as to whether I should go with a plug and play kit from DDM tuning, or a wired/ relayed kit?

I'm so glad to have my bike back to the way she used to be, too bad it's gonna be shitty here the next few days, but I don't think I'm gonna be able to get my helmet over my huge swollen mouth anyways.

I just can't understand why your ecu got fried....Stock exhaust has a very good metallic heat shield and ventilation.I rode in very high temperatures (over 40 Celsius) and had no issues...

Unless you have an aftermarket exhaust...

Anyway, i used something like this Dei Reflect A Cool Adhesive Thermal Heat Shield Barrier 24"x24" 010462 | eBay to protect my tail from the hotbodies.

Also, i got a very small lipo battery and i have flipped my ecu over the battery, under the seat for more protection against exhaust heat.

I do have an RS-5 exhaust, When the ECU fried I was grinding for more than an hour in dead stop traffic on 2 consecutive 100F days, It really was murder getting stuck in that traffic. I learned the lesson that given certain situations lane splitting is the best option!

Yeahhhh, it's been about 15 years since I've had dental insurance. Restaurants are notorious for having crap insurance, So I had some cracked molars and a couple abscessed teeth, as well as as all my wisdom teeth come out.

Thanks on the bike, and Nick, It looks like with the way the weather is shaping up that the bike may be getting winterized soon and staying that way till I get home in June Only time will tell now!
