can't put my bike in second gear??

so today after hitting the canyons in the blazing sun, i quickly jumped off my bike and ran inside the house to cool down and not realizing i left keys in the bike with the ON position.. After an hour, i was ready to go out and grab a drink with a buddy thats when i realized it was too late and my bike was already dead..

i never tried to push start (bump start) a bike before but after youtubing and researching online, it was recommended that it was done in second gear reason being that it was easier. For some reason, my gear lever wouldn't let me hit 2nd gear. it was as if it didnt exist. Only 1st and neutral worked. I kept trying and eventually gave up because i was putting so much pressure i was afraid of breaking it off. Is this normal for 05 zx6r It took me over an hour to finally start my bike in 1st gear after draining in sweat.

U gotta get the bike moving before u put it in 2nd gear. What I usually do is put it in 1st gear, hold the clutch in and start running with the bike. Once I get goin pretty fast I jump on the bike, kick it up to 2nd then release the clutch.

These Kawasaki can not be shifted into anything but first and neutral when stationary. Its the positive neutral finder feature. Frankly, wish my KTM had it. That thing can be a bitch to find neutral on.

You have to move the wheel to get to second.

You may bump start in first. You just have to get up to 5-6 mph.

Yeah, what everyone else has said. Also, don't bump start - get a jumper pack and do it that way in the future. I know you had no choice this time, but it's something to invest in so that you can do it right the next time you need it.
