A friend enlightened me last weekend about how I could shorten my right side plastic that covers the exhuast and I just would like to share it with any fellow members who have the same year bike.. It was easy and done with a dremel by cutting it than sanding it down . I'm going to actually buy some sandpaper to smooth it out a little more but I must say I like the way it looks better! Don't forget to take small bracket off that holds in the back part cause it won't be needed any longer if u cut it.
Yeah man, delete that ugly thing. I got my kit from this guy, but he lives right around the corner so I got a good deal. You can actually source the parts yourself.
I've also had great results , I powder coated my rear sets too except when someone backed into my bike they snapped the driver one so now only the passanget pegs are powder coated . But I highly recommend it
Whoa there's a lot of experience here - I dont have a Dremel, would a handsaw (wielded very carefully!) do the same job, or is the plastic gonna chew badly!?
I used an angle grinder to chop it off, hand saw will do just fine though. Then a bench grinder to make it flush. Then some fine grit sandpaper to smooth it out.
You can use a hand saw. Just go back over the edges with some 300 grit sand paper and smooth it out. Dremel would be ideal though. Just pick up a cheap on from harbor freight. You'll use it a lot more than you think. Does wonders for cutting off that bracket too for the rear reservoir.
Everything under there is in fact static. Nothing will damage it, but yes you'll need to remove the seat to inspect/fill/service. That's why I went my route and just threw that little $20 kit on mine.
Galfer, Goodrich, CoreMoto... They'll all do the trick. Or you could find someone local that might make you some as well. That tends to be cheaper than buying these brand name lines that all do the same thing.
while i'm here looking at DYI's.....quick question....bought my bike a few months ago....now i notice the fluid in my rear reservoir is getting low, and i don't know what fluid is in there now....so do i bleed/drain or just top up with fluid? Thanks.
