1-12-17 work commute

Whoda thunk I could ride to work in the middle of January?

Clear pavement this morning, higher than 40F all night, so there is no snow or ice on the roads. Just a bit of muck, the bike will be dirty from the ride....

Hoping that I can take the long way back to the house, and make it a > 100 mile day....

Nice!

I rode to work on 12/31, making November 2016 the only calendar month I have not ridden my bike since I got my first one 5 years ago. (Combo of weather and broken hand).

No riding for me in Portland now, though. We've had rain/ice for weeks, and just got a foot of snow.

Never ride faster than you can stop

I was overdressed on the way in, and it will be sweltering on the ride home.... the gear I use to ride when it's 35°F, only remains comfortable up to about 60. then, it becomes a sauna. Lots of zippers partially open on the way home, and the light weight gloves, LOL.

That was me yesterday. I had longjohns on under my jeans. Winter jacket and gloves. Did not make that mistake today. Mesh jacket and summer gloves.

They said it never rains in Southern California. Well THEY were wrong. It has rained off and on for a week. I put the bike away for a bit and pulled out the snow skiis. It is supposed to get 20 feet of snow in mammoth Mountain over the next week. Woo Hoo.

Rode to work today and will tomorrow. Great to be out after not riding for 8 days. Only problem was the sand left over from the half inch of snow and ice last Friday that shut the city down. Had on a dress shirt with wool dress pants with my normal riding overprints and the winter jacket. Not bad - it's ok till upper 70's. Lots of fun but we need a good rain to wash all the sand away. The older i get and the more I ride I want Florida winters in eastern Tennessee.

Feel for you Sabotage, hope you get over it quickly. I have a son who lives in Troy NY, told me last weekend it was 15 degrees, think that was the high! However looks like he is moving to Portland OR (another city which is shut down by 1/2" of snow.

I'm hoping winter is over :-)

I also managed to ride today..... we're due freezing rain tomorrow, so I will stop at the nearest gas station to my house to top up the tank...... it may have to sit for a while, after this round.

I haven't ridden to work all winter. I'm a fair weather pussy. I even have grip warmers and a big windscreen on my FJR. You guys are REAL men or you have thicker blood. You decide.

For me, it's a matter of being more addicted
