Make no mistake, if I were to get another modern Ducati (I still have my 1964 Monza :-p) it would be a vanity bike, pure and simple.

Yep, totally agree! This is why it's nice to have 2 bikes with me at all times!

Since I've had this setup, there have been 2 days where the zx6r was down for different issues, so I ended up riding the 500 only those days. FWIW, I had the 1198 for 4 years and I've never lost a single track day for mechanical reasons. Only issue was when I killed the battery during lunch once because I left the ignition on. Still made it on track but I had to push start it for a couple of sessions. And one time when I decided to swap brake pads or something at the track and I missed one session because it took me way longer than it should've taken me.

That's not to say that I haven't seen others with Ducatis or other bikes miss a whole day because of bike issues though. It can happen with anything. Having 2 bikes with me at all times is SO MUCH NICER!

Depending on the price and a few other things, I'm not sure if this would be a race bike if/when I get one...but it will most definitely be a track bike. It would likely end up being the bike I would take to track days just to have fun, and enjoy new tracks on a beastly bike, and would probably never be pushed to 100%.

But then again...I said something similar of my 1198 and one thing lead to another and that was the bike I started racing on

I am glad I can admire them from afar.

A play on words, or words on play
Last chapter, verse in the final act
Words well scripted, each sentence choking
Inaudible gag, blanket which suffocates
As you eat another's words
Malnourished, you starve.
