Hey all- just picked up a 2008 Vivid (hi-vis) Yellow ZX6R last week. I started riding in 2007 on a 2006 Ninja 650R after taking the MSF course, and then sold the 650R about two years ago. I sold the 650R with the intention of using the $$ to purchase Boston Celtics season tickets (which did not pan out).
I had always wanted to get back into riding after selling my 650R and started looking around recently at 600CC bikes. I have an affinity towards Kawasaki given my favorable experience with the 650R so started looking at ZX6Rs more and more and ignoring the other 600s. I absolutely love the styling of the 2007/2008 ZX6Rs and don't really care for the more angular model that was released in 2009 (completely subjective), I know the performance of these bikes is much different, but I could not bring myself to buy a bike that I did not like the looks of. Plus regardless of which model I bought there would be a distinct performance difference versus the 650R.
With that, I finally found the perfect bike for me last week. A one owner, showroom condition, 2008 Vivid Yellow ZX6R with a Two Bros slip-on, Juice Box, BMC air filter, and solo seat cowl. I would have never considered a yellow bike, but the Vidid Yellow looked 10x better in person versus the pictures I had seen online. Almost like a muted neon yellow. I love the color. The owner was an auto mechanic and took great care of the bike, it was in the best condition by far than the other ZX6Rs I looked at.
I have only ridden about 20 miles so far (just got new tires - Pilot Powers - put on this afternoon) but so far I am extremely happy with this bike and to get back into riding. It seems at lot of people are asking about experiences going from a 650R to a ZX so I will be happy to write up an additional post comparing the differences.
I have been reading around this place for a while and it seems to be a great forum- looking forward to contribute!
Here is my old and trusted 650R (Two Bros carbon fiber slip, PCIII Power Commander, BMC air filter, Barnett clutch springs, Puig screen, Custom rear hugger, probably a few other things)
Here is the ZX6R
