Newbie from south wales with a bit of a winter project

Hi all,

After riding enduro and mx bikes for years and always wanting a road bike, i finally turned to the darkside and did my test. I built myself a honda crf 450 supermoto for a bit of a toy and to gain a bit of road experience and have finally bitten the bullet and got myself a propper road toy.

With limited budget (especially with kids at this time of year) but also a love of the ninja and also for tinkering, i picked myself up a 2000 j1. Few bits and bobs that need doing and also a few bits i want to do so i will be on here looking for guidance with my winter project.

First thing i want to do is look into a newer tail because i love the front of the bike but think the rear end really ages it.

Hope to speak to you soon and possibly offer advice of my own when i start to dive in!

I'll run with this line of thinking, it's your foo-king bike, you bought and paid for it. Tell those wankers that have no imagination to sod off. Use it as your own personal canvas. If it's not to your liking tear off the offending items, and go look for something different.

Back in the '90s & early '00s I was not a fan of stunters gluing shaggy faux fur to their turded out cowlings after dropping their new 'Blade or R1. But I never said a thing to anyone, 'til now. It's not that I don't have strong opinions, I do.

But I believe even more strongly, in the gift & sharing of ideas, thus, others have the right to their own notions (as long as they are not harming/impinging/or otherwise castigating anothers publicly). And all all entitled to their beliefs/views inside their wee personal brains. Quiet can be bliss, and can be a safe place to indulge the less socially polite creatures that dwell within.

So, have fun, be creative, be an individual. With a bike of your vintage, you're never gonna make tonne selling it. If it runs OK, and you're having a hoot when you go for a ride, god bless.

One caveat: post pix!

Cheers mate, and welcome aboard.

Cheers Scoot. Be good to meet up sometime when the weather clears up next year. I am going to go for a different rear 100% because i like to be different myself. Lol. I know its an old bike to start with but its paid for cash and it will give me something to play around with and waste money on without having to put myself in debt. With 2 kids, 2 cars and a van in the house already, i can justify blowing thousands on a toy so i will have a go at making my own little frankenstein! Haha

Zefexmuse, i follow your thoughts too mate. I may not like what other people do to their bikes and visa versa, but at the end of the day, its mine to mod how i choose so if you dont like it, piss off! Dont get me wrong, i would love a new zx but unfortunately, funds dont allow and the wife would kill me for taking finance on a toy!
